Re: ZGT?
Completely unrelated. This boy is barely two years bless him. My last boy went from diagnosis to PTS in less than one month

ZGT?
I noticed very smelly discharge coming from my rats left ear a few days ago and just below he has a small hard lump. I've started him on baytril but I have a very horrible feeling it's a ZGT? I've only just lost one boy to ZGT less than a month ago. Surely they aren't that common? In my 7 years of r...

Re: Quick deterioration
Yes urine was dipped and showed nothing. He's currently on baytril and metronidazole. No excess drinking and he's still eating fine.
I've noticed he's very unbalanced could it possibly be a stroke? No sign of any head tilt.
What steroids would you advise?

Quick deterioration
I have a 2 year old rat who was healthy until 2 weeks ago. He's lost weight very quickly and also become very lethargic, I have noticed he is having trouble using his back legs and movement in his back paws seems restricted. He's been on baytril for 2 weeks. Vet has found no obvious reason for illne...

Can blood glucose meters be used on rats?
My rat has recently been diagnosed with diabetes. Can human glucose meters be used on rats? Or is there an animal equivalent? It would be much easier and less stressful to monitor at home surely?

Re: Rapid Renal Failure? ETA looking for better vet in Derby
I've been back to my vets today who did a gravity urine test and dipstick test, Followed by another sort of dipstick test which showed Throttle to be diabetic.
They have now put him on insulin injections twice aday and to be reviewed in one week.

Re: Rapid Renal Failure?
I did ask for a urine test but was told it was pointless on rats. Hes still eating and drinking fine and on a kidney friendly diet plus ipakatine.

Rapid Renal Failure? ETA looking for better vet in Derby
My boy Throttle has been drinking a lot the last few months, I put it down to possible start of renal failure as he's around 20months. I also noticed some weight loss and on weighing him today noticed he'd lost 206g within 4 weeks. This morning I found him hunched over, puffed up and half asleep inb...
