Bald spot on throat?

One of the "babies" (she is about 7 months old now lol), over the last few weeks has developed a bald patch about the size of a 5p on her throat... That is the only sign of any baldness on her, or any of the others! Doesn't affect her in any way, just not sure why she has it? No hair has started to ...

Vets in and around Edinburgh!

I need a new vet... the vet is good herself, but not good enough to make me want to pay extortionate prices. Plus as much as I like the vet, I do sometimes feel not everyone in the place knows what they are talking about (for example I phoned up to register a new rat and I was asked what breed of ra...

Re: Rattly chest in baby

It started up again, clicked on the forum to post... and she's gone silent again.

So definitely getting shorter each time!
One of the older ones has been a little grumpy the last 2 days, so maybe it's just a bit of stress, as they are still so new!

Re: Rattly chest in baby

Thanks :)

I can't hear anything just now and I have really good hearing, so hopefully it was just something and nothing and will stay gone!

Re: Rattly chest in baby

Thanks! :)

With adults like I said I do sometimes leave it for a day or two and it does sometimes go away on it's own, which I like as I don't like them being on antibiotics tbh!
I will leave it a little while and see if she gets worse tonight/tomorrow morning and go to the vet then if she does.

Re: Rattly chest in baby

First time I heard it was literally about 10 mins before I posted!
I was just out at tesco, got in and can't hear anything..

ETA: There is a very slight noise now you can only hear if the room is silent and you are looking for it

Rattly chest in baby

I have had many a rat with the dreaded rattly chest... with an adult if they start, I give them a day or two to see if it goes away as it often does. But this girl is only 10 weeks old. What is the right thing to do with her? She has only been here just over a week, and only been in the main cage ab...

Re: Needing advice about getting girls to lose weight!

Yeah they do tend to sort of "leap" around the cage  but as they are only 8/9 weeks they are still all teeny just now  It looks more full from here as opposed to in the photos, so I know what you mean! Those perches are cool actually, and the door thing is so true! I do find it trick...

Re: Needing advice about getting girls to lose weight!

Thanks all! Anabrese, she is, believe me  a little extra on them I don't mind, but she does need slimming down! Beri - thanks for the info! :D the plastic vertical chain thing isn't really to climb on, it's more that the babies like climbing through the rings as they are small enough :lol...

Re: Needing advice about getting girls to lose weight!

Right all the girls are now in the same cage! I switched up the way I did the layout to try and get more "activity" going, what do you think? If it is bad you can tell me! I realised normally I put in like 5-6 hammocks and put ropes etc in the spaces... this time I did the opposite and filled ...

Re: Making sure they get all they need..

Ended up with a mix from RR, and they get DE about once a week (though going to up this to a couple of times a week), and they also get DR3 a couple of times a week too, but they get loads of healthy fresh food anyway :)

Re: Needing advice about getting girls to lose weight!

That post was amazing, thank you! I will get some photos of where they free-range just now, and then the space where they will be free ranging once I can make sure it is all secure! :D Their cage is up on a set of drawers, but in the area I want to have them free-range, so can try your "lifting" ide...
