Re: Post neuter: Part of testicle left behind or blood blist

If it looks like a blood blister then it's very likely a reaction to the internsal suture material which has not broken down as it should-eventually it will burst as the material exits and heal very quickly -normally won't need treatment -it does and can happen and even as late as 9 months post op -...

Re: Emergency! Massive cut!

Just to check. Which way round is the gash? Tilly had a gash across (not down) her back, right where it arched and it was never going to close on its own so we took her to have it cleaned and stitched as an emergency (it was of course on a Sunday). This was over an inch long though (on a 250g femal...

Re: Emergency! Massive cut!

it will almost certainly be a bite wound not a scratch -sometimes the tooth goes into the skin then the rat pulls away and the result looks like a clean cut -normally they will heal quickly just make sure there is no infection

Re: Can a ear infection make the face swell? [ZGT?]

I've lost 4 from ZGTs over time -the last two were brothers and both over 2 -with one the tumour was in the jaw bone itself so not operable the other it was under the ear but under anaesthetic to remove it my vet found it was not operable due to it's position as with most tumours i assume they start...

Re: Neutering Ethics

totally agree with the last two posts and i electively castrate all bucks unless there is a medical reason why not or for example they are 2 elderly rescued boys who are entire and will stay as a pair even then if healthy i would consider castrating if one was left alone to allow intros into other g...

Re: What substrate do you use?

Re: Baytril vs Septrin

yes it does work in the right dose for the right condition -I think to many it appears as a clear sticky liquid that doesn't smell and so doesn't do much lol -even I'm quilty of that at times ;) -in fact it is a good antibio -but some vets don't seem to know the dosages etc

Re: Abscess cleaning advice needed

It's possible rather than kicked he could have been dropped from a height to cause the broken bones beaing in mind a Crow was involved - I fully understand how some think PTS could be the best for him but firstly rats have a high pain threshold that doesn't mean it's OK to be in pain but it is diffe...

Re: Abscess cleaning advice needed *graphic images*

what meds are you going to use for the internal parasites ? Vet and I haven't pinned down what we are going to give him. I've been looking round the net and someone suggested Panacur? But I'm open to advice on this. I was thinking of starting another thread about it. I know Milbemax is good for alm...
