Re: Scab from due to mites or a war wound?

For me mites scabs are always small, round and almost black. On the back, neck and near ears. But normally there is more scabs than one with mites.
It can be also just a scratch if they have sharp nails.

Re: Strange vocalisation?

I'd get them checked out to be on the safe side :luck: Mine is checked and fine. :) She maybe is an alien. Rat-purring alien. Maybe it is related to her heat, because she is doing this only sometimes. But I like this sound, better than a cat. :luck: Anyway it is good to check. Always be sure...

Re: Strange vocalisation?

Yes, as Rootigger said. I have one girl doing this, had one foster girl before also doing this. It is very hard to describe really but it is nothing related to respy. It definitely sounds different than respy problems - it is quiet, hard to notice, and more soft and vibrating.

Re: Washing time

"yellowish greasy stain " is natural buck grease. You don't need to wash it off. I don't wash my rats, done it once but only because my one boy had big dandruff - used dog shampoo without smell. If you wash them, all smells are gone and for this rat it is "smelly" afterwards, so he and his cagemates...

Re: Lethargic disorientated older rat

It sound like PT, I just lost my boy because of PT and his symptoms was similar. He additionally couldn't swallow so he was on steroids only a few days before let him go.
It is worth to try steroids and galastop in this case. x

Re: Respiratory issue

I didn't tried Zithromax yet. Doxycycline is still working so I haven't use different ab. Maybe I should use combo with doxy and zithromax? My vet was talking about Tylan when doxy will stop working. What about nebulisation? Maybe some bronchodilators will help him breathing when it is worse at even...

Re: Respiratory issue

Yes she is his sister. I think he is resistant for baytril and veraflox as none of them work alone anymore plus he is starting be respy during treatment. Only ronaxan is still working pretty fast. So, Nelly, do you think it will be better to wait this week/two for him? I can try as he and Figs can b...

Respiratory issue

It is frustrating...Zanzil was continuously on Veraflox for last 5 months, but he get poorly again during treatment two times. So we done combo veraflox+ronaxan for all 30 days. It finished week ago (16.10) and from yesterday he is respy again. :( :( He was without meds only for 12 days. What can I ...

Re: Treatment with Baytril

Agree, 7 days is too short course for rats. It didn't kill all germs and this is dangerous as they can become baytrill resistant. I am always doing at least 2 weeks, and over month course for my worse respy boys.
Your rat didn't seem to need a combo for now.

What dose are you giving?

Re: how do you bath a rat please?

Changing bedding and washing stuff that often only make things worse as everytime rats need to mark everything with their smells. This is normal for rats to pee everywhere, hammocks, shelfs. Never do to much cleaning/never wash all hammocks in one run. Get some shreded newspapers to sputnik and chan...

Re: Respy all time

I also was thinking about 0.15-0.2
Zanzil is now about 600g rat, and Loki who is respy now is about 560g.
