Re: Abscess on face? Not yet surfaced

Aww - poor little soul. I think he needs to go to the vet as soon as possible. Rats are prone to abscesses and sometimes you can leave them to come to a head and discharge and, as long as you keep it clean, all is fine. But this sounds more complex and the little guy might need antibiotics. Well don...

Re: Poorly rat, thinking about the future

Spaying in a tiny extra bit to the op, but I have found it really helps to stop the tumours. Good luck to your little girl.

Re: What to look for in a vet?

I think you will get willingness to learn if you go to the Royal Dick - it is where my fantastic rat vet trained. Young vets might well be more keen to learn and find out than more established ones.

Re: Best wheel to purchase

My latest batch of Silent Spinners have been shocking. The middle nuts fall off ... the coloured rims come away from the white part. Shocking! Mary and I had this conversation a few months ago. I said I wasn't impressed now they are Kaytee and not superpet. I too have found they randomly undo and t...

Re: Can we pass on flu/cold to rats?

Interestingly, colds/flu can pass between humans and ferrets. That is one reason the poor little guys get used in research. Teddy Pom Pom had a sniffle and did a great big snottery sneeze in my face and I had a stinking cold for a week

Re: Advice regarding mammary tumour on 2 year old female

Have you tried galastop, to see if it slows/stops the tumour growth? It is expensive, but cheaper than an op. Lynne on here has used it with great success.

Re: Why do you use FR?

The best thing about this forum is the excellent moderator team. I have never seen in the two years I have been on here any trolling/nastiness etc. Did you miss Wormtail!? :P There have actually been a couple of incidents of trolling/people making multiple threads but not taking on board any advice...

Just a thought, but I don't trust FB - it seems cavalier about privacy sometimes. Thiz forum feels safer, so easier to talk on.

Re: Why do you use FR?

There is something about this Forum which is very special and hard to put into words. Unlike FB, people on here are genuinely helpful and will go out of their way to support you. I have made a large number of genuine friends on here, many of them in 'real life' and some purely on-line. But they are ...

Re: Need Help - Serious Fighting

Oh dear - boys are lovely, but they can be painful  First things first. It sounds like Rocket has sustained an injury, so you probably need to get him down to the vet to have him checked out. If there is something wrong with him, then that could make things worse, because Jarvis might see him ...
