Re: Separated rat as he injured another rat

since I removed colnel from the cage im having more disharmony in the main cage, which is making me wonder if I just need to go through reintroductions rather than a neuter? Is this worth a try? I've not had any injuries since they've been together since June but maybe it's a case of the younger one...

Re: Separated rat as he injured another rat

Should I go through intros with colnel and parsley before I put them in the cage together? I did try just after the incident to put parsley in the cage with colnel but he went for him I also tried the following morning but the same happened again, however he seems fine with him during free range or ...

Re: Separated rat as he injured another rat

Im just worried that of they are together when im not here colnel will turn on parsley as previously he was always cuddled up with tom. Whenever I am in I have been leaving the two together and putting parsley back in the group. He doesn't let any of the others go near him and pushes them away, that...

Re: Separated rat as he injured another rat

I've put them both in a hamster cage so I can watch them together and colnel is currently snuggled up next to parsley boggling away. He was so happy to have his brother with him

Re: Separated rat as he injured another rat

His brother and him always got in fine I have them out together at the moment, im just not sure I trust him not to injure him but he does get excited every time he sees parsley. How can I be sure it's hormonal aggression, as I have noticed a few bites in him also. However Tom came off way worse and ...

Separated rat as he injured another rat

So I had to separate one of my rats from the group as he injured another rat last night, he's now really depressed and won't come out of his sputnik or take any treats. I have the other rats in a hamster cage at the moment because of Tom's injury and I don't want them to be too boisterous and hurt h...

Re: Keep getting bitten

I think he was mistaking my finger for treats as he has started taking them very gently now and when he's sure the treat is food he grabs it a bit harder and is all happy. He's fine with being picked up and having cuddles so I think maybe it was just a case of mistaken identity... We will see though...

Making my own mix

I was thinking about making my own mix, does this sound like it would be ok and would I need to add any supplements to it? 40%HBB 20%science selective 20%mixed cereals was thinking Tesco oats rice pops and a wheat based cereal 10% dried meal worms 5% seeds pumpkin and sunflower 5% frozen veg? If you...

Keep getting bitten

One of my new rescue rats keeps biting me. He's drawn blood twice now (not loads more like a little paper cut) each time has been after there has been a bit of a fight in the cage and I try to check over the hairless rats. He is genuinely quite grabby with his mouth so snatches food really quick, I'...

Re: How long to open up whole cage after introductions

That's what I ended up doing last night as they were just winding each other up so they all went into the carrier from about 2.00am till this morning where I put them back in half the explorer. They were snuggling when I left for work. I did tell them if it continues they will be living in the carri...

Re: How long to open up whole cage after introductions

I've now gonna back to basics and removed all hammocks as my two nakeds wouldn't let colonel in the hammock and it was causing an unreasonable amount of tension. They now all hate me and are hiding together in the corner, if the fighting continues they will be going back in the carrier until they so...

How long to open up whole cage after introductions

So my rats are all in the liberta now an I have moved them into the whole cage, however I have had to go back a step as some fights and shrieking have been breaking out with my little hairless. He's started shrieking every time one of the bigger ones come near him and running to hide. I don't know i...
