Re: Eye infection?

Bah. I was trying to think of anything else it could be, but there's not really anything else! He got drugs? :luck: Yep, antibiotic cream stuff. Then he's going back in ten days time to have another look and hopefully get an idea of the damage. It's already looking better though, so I'm hopeful it ...

Re: Eye infection?

You were absolutely right. He's injured his eye somehow. Poor boy :(

:( Oh no. If it is an injury I've no idea how he's done it.

Eye infection?

Dave is booked in for the vest in a few hours, but in the meantime thought I'd check if anyone had any idea what was wrong. A few days ago I noticed that every once in a while he would squint his left eye. He seemed completely fine in himself, and the eye looked fine besides this, so I just kept an ...

Re: Archie is really poorly - what should I do?

Right well, at the vets it really was a toss up between putting him to sleep and giving him an injection of antibiotics and another of steroids. I went for the second option. Really, I think he's passed the point of recovering fully but as he doesn't seem in a lot of pain I had to give him a chance ...

Archie is really poorly - what should I do?

Archie is now 29 months old and has been losing weight for a while. He is very skinny now but besides that has been this usual self. I had the vet pop over anyway a week ago to check him over (our friend who retired the next day) and he agreed he was doing well, just getting elderly. However, last n...

Re: Howard's respiratory issues

He only started making the noise this morning, it's just that given he's had this before I didn't want to wait to see if it got worse before asking where to go next if the vets keep saying he's fine. He is just eating dinner now and isn't making any noise at all... however, Edmund is  :? I'll ...

Re: Howard's respiratory issues

A grumbling upper respiratory infection you say? Yes, that sounds right from your description. I'm not surprised my vets didn't mention this, they are rat illiterate. I have tried 3 different surgeries and they have all been useless.

Thank you for the advise

Howard's respiratory issues

I'm just after some advise really. Since Howard turned 6 months (about a year ago) he has made respiratory noises on off. The first three times this happened I took him to the vets, but each time the vet said his chest sounded clear. Another time it came back and because he also seemed a bit low in ...

Re: Abscess on Archie's tummy

How is Archie today? :) Vix. Aww thank you for thinking of him :) The place where the abscess was has healed over nicely and there is no sign of infection anymore. On a separate note he is getting a little skinny which I think is probably age related but he's enjoying my attempts to feed him up :he...

Re: Abscess on Archie's tummy

Yes, the boys can give me delightful surprises sometimes  I started him on antibiotics and cleaned it with boiled salted cooled water. He ate all of his dinner last night and was very excited by the antibiotics in yogurt so I don't think he's feeling too ill in himself. Hopefully it'll clear u...

Abscess on Archie's tummy

Just picked Archie up and when I put him down... I had pus on my fingers :o  It can't have been there long as I'm sure I'd have noticed but it looks like he had an abscess that has already burst. I've got some anti-biotics left over from another issue, should I start him on that tonight? Is th...

Re: Another ZGT/Abscess thread :(

So sorry Katie :( A ZGT is what took my Nigel. When I first found out I was told that rats can go on quite a long time happily living with a ZGT. It was certainly true of Nigel - he first showed signs 5 months before it finally took him. I hope this is the case this time as well. Kisses to Oakie :he...
