Re: HLD - when to make the call

I'm sorry.

I've had a rat with HLD in the past and I too made the decision due to his body failing him and it all being such a struggle even though he was with it in other ways. It's really sad but it's only after that I could see it was the best decision xx

Hay too strong smelling - how else can I store it?

My gerbils have Timothy hay and I get it from a dust free place that now only sells it in double sized amounts. So I have a huge box of very fresh sweet smelling hay which is in the room with the gerbils but it's also the room where the rats are. I'm finding it too strong a smell to be honest althou...

Re: Time to halve my SRS - 2 rats

Thanks everyone There is no real reason other than it was just a thought. The boys are of different ages - 22 months and 15 months. Both happily plodding along. I've always just scatter fed at the top. Both halves have substrate in deep trays and the top half is more "bed area" and the bottom has a ...

Time to halve my SRS - 2 rats

So after 7 years of keeping rats I am down to my last 2. I'm sadly thinking I'm going to take a break after these guys and see how I feel..... I have an srs and the rats have access to both levels but I'm thinking do they only need half. They tend to choose to stay in the top anyway as its where I s...

Re: Help needed with introductions please ASAP!

I totally agree with Cub's advice particularly the popping them in a carrier and going for a walk or drive etc. I have done it many a time. It won't hurt them being in a small carrier for a while. It all helps in the longer term. Good luck :)

Re: Help needed with introductions please ASAP!

It all sounds good. I don't think I would go too fast moving on though. Keep them in that cage and keep it bare until there are consistent rat piles with everyone wanting to be near and laying on and around the others. Even if it is a few days through each stage it is worth it in the end rather than...

Re: Help needed with introductions please ASAP!

Totally agree with Cub. I'd missed the age bit so yes - they need to grow a bit and also it gives you more opportunity to bond with them :) Babies are so exciting!

Re: Sudden onset seizures/lack of motor function (URGENT!!)

I'm sorry this is happening and I really hope it all works out and that your rat is ok. However by what you have described I don't think you can wait until Monday. Can you find an out of hours vet and get him seen tonight? Or at the very least one who opens on a Sunday morning? I know of some who ju...

Re: Help needed with introductions please ASAP!

What kind of carrier is it? If there are air hole/slat type openings - which I am of course assuming there are - could you put a bottle inside and somehow secure it with garden wire or similar? If you do a search on this forum I'm sure you will find such threads. I've slept many a night with newly i...

Re: Help needed with introductions please ASAP!

Hey I was just about to post about the carrier method. It really is the best way to undertake introductions. i too have a SRS cage for my 4 boys and I still intro'd using a cat carrier before moving to a bare furet plus and only then adding bits of cage furniture every couple of days. Before I put t...
