Re: Lice - treatment?

We use the 0.5% and only do one dose, perhaps with the lower concentrate one the recommendations are different, but I certainly would not want to risk any side effects. Correct it is, after re-reading the thread that's what's happening. I had a bad experience with mice and ivermectin, so we used th...

Re: seizures/ fitting

My vet is coming over tonight (he's also a close friend) to see him. I can't take him to work as they aren't that rat savvy. My friend sees my rats and reptiles. Previously he was going a little stiff for a second or two then coming out of it and was fine, we just kept an eye on him after he had bee...

seizures/ fitting

Does anyone have or have had any rats who fit? I have one boy who was having mild seizures but they are escalating now. The ones I have witnessed via work have been so much milder than what my boy is doing. He is eating and drinking fine, but gone from a social boy who loved hiding in my hood/ fleec...

Re: Lice - treatment?

They cycle was still going with mine and they needed the 3 treatments, they were covered in eggs. They lice were still hatching and producing more eggs by the 2nd week, checked under a scope. Then you obviously didn't use the correct product, concentration or application method ;) It isn't detrimen...

Re: Lice - treatment?

You must weigh the rats prior to treating and treat all in the cage. I use Ivermectin drops 0.1%, once a week for 3 weeks. 100g- 2 drops 200g- 4 drops 400g- 8 drops They need to be treated for 3 weeks as the drops kill the lice rather than the eggs. By the 6th day you will usually get more lice hatc...

Re: Average lifespan?

My first rat was a top eared girl and she lived until she was nearly 3. My first group were dumbo girls and at that time I rarely saw many of friends dumboss live over a year. This was in 2004 ish. They all lived between 13 and 18 months. Since then all my ratties that have passed on (dumbos) have a...

Re: My old boy is not good

If you feel he is uncomfortable is it not better to at least call a vet to find out their opinion? If there has been no improvement all day it sounds like the right thing to do.

Re: EMERGENCY! Two ratties eyes swelling out of socket!

Good luck with the recovary. Metacam for the eyes :?? For any eye buldging increased pressure etc i'd go for something to bring the pressure down, such as Timilol . . . . we have some in, just in case. It is for glaucoma, but in acute cases it could help bring the pressure down. Its an anti inflamm...

Re: Respy boys... Still.

The new vet should have phoned the old vet and asked for histories either verbally/ fax or email. I can't understand why they wouldn't have done that. Your also entitled to seek a second opinion without transferring vets although the new one would still need history. Ugh I am so sorry for you, some ...
