Re: Glaucoma, eye removal :(

Never with a rat, but we had a guinea pig who had to have an eye removed. It cleared up eventually and he was fine but did suffer some infections in the socket while it was healing. He seemed completely untroubled by it all, though.

Hugs to you and your girlie, I hope she is ok.

Of course we care; I tend not to post on health threads if I haven't got advice to offer but I'm really glad the news is so positive. :)

Re: Hooty boy...

I'm glad he's doing fine now. Reminds me of the time I rushed a hooty boy to the vet as an emergency, only to have him make a miraculous recovery in the waiting room.

Re: Tumour removed

So glad he's doing better. :D

Try mixing meds to a teaspoonful of sloppy paste with a bit of Heinz baby porridge - the dry stuff in a packet - and a tiny smear of Nutella. I've never had a rat refuse it.

Glad your boys are doing well after their little ops. ;) They should be fine to go back into their usual cage - I expect you've done that by now. :luck:

Re: Penis plug counselling

I've had bucks and not so far had to deal with one of these... and when I do have rats again I think I'd at least start with bucks so I guess it's just a matter of time... What are the signs and how do you, um, deal with it? I've had experience with an impacted guinea pig so am not a complet...

That picture is lovely, sbarnett984. My love and thoughts are with you all and your rats. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is not directly affected but who cries when reading this thread.

Re: Young rat is starving himself

I'm so sorry you're having this trouble. If he'll eat a yoggie drop, could you melt one, mix in the meds and let it set again before you give it to him? Lots of suggestions here and I don't want to overload you, but I always mixed meds with Heinz baby porage oats or Oats'n'apple if you can get it (c...
