Re: Cozy Pet Cage

I have a cozy pet cage but a different make (more like an SRS/Aventura) and had this problem. The wilko litter trays are an absolute dream to attatch (plus great value). If you don't tend to change the layout around too much you can leave the screw fixings it comes with attached to the cage and just...

Re: Is this the right baytril dose?

Both the baytril that I've got left over and the one I've been given are 2.5%, I think when I was calculating the dose before i was using the 5mg/kg dose, converted into mg/lb. Would you recommend sticking to what she's prescribed or continue giving the 0.28ml dose?

Is this the right baytril dose?

One of my girls has had rattly breathing recently - she seems fine in herself but it doesn't seem to be shifting so I decided to start a course of baytril as I had quite a lot left over from a previous rat. Her weight was 290g, using the dosage calculator online I got a dose of 0.28 per day, which s...

Re: Best rat cage for 2 boys

I've recently got a second hand cozy pet cage which is of a similar style but a bit cheaper, only 2 doors open on the right hand side and overall not as good quality as the SRS/explorer. They definitely appreciate the extra space, and I can see this one lasting me a while (the top can also be placed...

Aventura style middle tray

Has anyone got any tips on modifying the middle shelf of an adventura/cozy pet style cage? Basically only one edge of the access hole has a lip on it, so impossible to put substrate into without them kicking it down. http://rs1299.pbsrc.com/albums/ag68/Awesomerosity/IMG_20171111_115117_zpsnbtcjnpp.j...

Re: Neutered boy introductions

Alright, will keep an eye all the same. Have spoken to the rescue. She said she doesn't know the date of his neuter for certain (she's had 85 rats from one home and neutered 3 large groups of males in the last 6 months), but if she said she'd already tried him with girls she definitely would have gi...

Re: Neutered boy introductions

Will she be likely to show other signs of pregnancy, fur loss around nipples etc, or just the weight gain and behavioural changes? Have emailed the rescue, no reply just yet but am pretty sure the answer will be that he was neutered more than 2 weeks before introductions as she's pretty overrun at t...

Re: Neutered boy introductions

I'm not sure, will try to get in touch with the rescue today, but I assume it was over two weeks as he had no visible wounds on him or anything like that, and she'd tried before with some girls. Is it advisable to start monitoring her weight? Or will I be unable to tell at this stage?

Re: Neutered boy introductions

I'm a little bit worried about Pangur, the girl who I saw Ned mounting on the first day of introductions, everyone has been doing great and all getting along really well now in a permanent set up, but Pangur is being very aggressive, both with me and the other rats recently. I dont know if I'm overt...

Re: Neutered boy introductions

They're still in the carrier at the moment, as I'm sort of in and out of the house all week I thought I'd play it safe. I think the wound could be from the initial fight, I just hadn't seen it because it's under the fur. Not sure if it was from nails as it was a pretty deep cut, and had sort of punc...

Neutered boy introductions

So yesterday I started introductions with my 3 girls and a neutered rescue boy, and am a bit unsure whether I need to separate them. Firstly, one of the girls was in heat and he was humping her periodically. Is this normal or should I be worried about pregnancy? He was homed to me as ready to go wit...

Big bar spacing solutions

I'm having a nightmare with my new cage at the moment. After 2 weeks of being quite happily contained, the girls have decided that the bar spacing is in fact too large and that they can squeeze out of it through the top . They're in a mamble temporarily, but I don't want them in it long term b...

Re: Powder coating

Thanks for the replies. Did you find that the hammerite stayed on the cage well? My main concern is it flaking off and them ingesting it, and also having to reapply it if it comes off through general wear and tear. Did the finish look okay? I'm very paranoid that it will end up looking silly due to ...

Powder coating

Hi all, I've just bought myself a vintage parrot cage and its massively rusted/in general bad nick. The cage part is essentially naked metal so I'd definitely have to paint it with something to prevent rust in the future, and the base will need to be stripped off and repainted as well because the pa...

Re: Good intro suddenly going bad

During intros I've done, I've always been told to go back a step or completely return them to the carrier when things kick off at a certain step. It seems to be very much hammock related by the sounds of things as they've obviously been doing well in the small cage up until this point, so I don't kn...
