Re: Help - sudden vision loss and hunched back

We've taken her to two vets and have been referred to a specialist vet who have been sent some photos, both are quite puzzled at how quickly it's developed and the lack of any other symptoms. She is no longer hunching her back and is bright and alert as normal, she seems to be quite content and the ...

Help - sudden vision loss and hunched back

Hi all, have just noticed one of my younger girls Juno (around 4 months) is really not looking so hot. She was absolutely fine yesterday but upon getting them out this morning, one of her eyes has completed clouded over so it's almost entirely white/blue, and she's a bit less coordinated than than u...

Re: Hooty babies

So they've each been given 0.04ml twice daily for 7 days - she said that this was based on the dosage for rats in the 'book', but I felt it was quite low based on the severity of the hooting and considering I used to give up to 0.14ml to a girl of similar size/age. She also told me to put it in drin...

Hooty babies

Hi all, I picked up two 12 week old newbies at the weekend as long term company for my girl Ash, all seemed to be going well - when I went to pick the girls up they were perfectly healthy, silky coats, bright eyes, no sign of porphyrin etc. However 2 days later they both seem to have really hooty br...

Re: Overweight and underweight rats - diet changes

Just thought I'd post an update. Pangur seems to be doing okay, I haven't been able to get her to a vet yet, but it doesn't seem as though shes getting much worse. Her behaviour is quite strange, she has moments where she appears fine, will happily eat and climb about in the cage and is inquisitive/...

Re: Overweight and underweight rats - diet changes

Yes, that's definitely a concern now, I'd planned on having a bit more time to weigh up my options but doesn't look as though Pangur will have long left. We made a little more progress today with the feeding routine, tried morning and evening feeding and she has eaten some, but no change in her cond...

Re: Overweight and underweight rats - diet changes

Thanks for the reply, Got the girls home this weekend, but it doesn't look good re Pangur's loss in weight as she's been showing some symptoms of a PT over the past couple of days. I've been giving her cooked pasta and Weetabix with soy milk in the evenings while I get Ash out for some extra excerci...

Re: Overweight and underweight rats - diet changes

Thanks for the reply! Yes, definitely hoping that some more movement will help her. She's always been a bit chunky but my mum hasn't been having them out of the cage often and doesn't like to put too much into the set up so don't think that's helped! I also wanted to ask about supplementing, I think...

Overweight and underweight rats - diet changes

Hi all, After living with my parents since the summer, my last 2 remaining girls are set to move back in with me soon :D Their current diet is mainly science selective - they were on a 'mix' of sorts before (HBB, selective, RRno11, seed mix and dry pasta/rice) but my mum added a lot of extra treats ...

Re: Cozy Pet Cage

I have a cozy pet cage but a different make (more like an SRS/Aventura) and had this problem. The wilko litter trays are an absolute dream to attatch (plus great value). If you don't tend to change the layout around too much you can leave the screw fixings it comes with attached to the cage and just...

Re: Is this the right baytril dose?

Both the baytril that I've got left over and the one I've been given are 2.5%, I think when I was calculating the dose before i was using the 5mg/kg dose, converted into mg/lb. Would you recommend sticking to what she's prescribed or continue giving the 0.28ml dose?

Is this the right baytril dose?

One of my girls has had rattly breathing recently - she seems fine in herself but it doesn't seem to be shifting so I decided to start a course of baytril as I had quite a lot left over from a previous rat. Her weight was 290g, using the dosage calculator online I got a dose of 0.28 per day, which s...

Re: Best rat cage for 2 boys

I've recently got a second hand cozy pet cage which is of a similar style but a bit cheaper, only 2 doors open on the right hand side and overall not as good quality as the SRS/explorer. They definitely appreciate the extra space, and I can see this one lasting me a while (the top can also be placed...

Aventura style middle tray

Has anyone got any tips on modifying the middle shelf of an adventura/cozy pet style cage? Basically only one edge of the access hole has a lip on it, so impossible to put substrate into without them kicking it down. http://rs1299.pbsrc.com/albums/ag68/Awesomerosity/IMG_20171111_115117_zpsnbtcjnpp.j...

Re: Neutered boy introductions

Alright, will keep an eye all the same. Have spoken to the rescue. She said she doesn't know the date of his neuter for certain (she's had 85 rats from one home and neutered 3 large groups of males in the last 6 months), but if she said she'd already tried him with girls she definitely would have gi...
