Re: Can my rats catch a cold ?

They won't be able to get many diseases humans can, including colds, so don't worry. Feel better though! =]

Re: Seizures

One of my boys has seizures if he becomes too fearful/stressed. Thankfully this makes them quite easy to manage. New places and people, or anything carrying the scent of my cat, can set him off. A trip to the vets is guaranteed to end up in a seizure. You said he had one in the bath, is that unfamil...

Re: HLD in 14 month old?

:o Just realised his ankle area is swollen. How did I miss that?? I guess that clears that up though... I've given him ibuprofen and we'll see how we go.
Thanks for the help!

Re: HLD in 14 month old?

Thanks guys. I will take him to the vet if he's the same in a couple of days...who knows, he may have just pulled a muscle or something.

He is having trouble climbing - really having to pull himself up with his forepaws.

HLD in 14 month old?

Yesterday I realised that one of my boys is having difficulty using his right hind leg. The foot is curled up and when he tries to use it to scratch himself he can't quite get to his face and just scratches the air near it =( From what I have read, it sounds like HLD? But does this occur at such an ...

Re: Anyone having photo problems :( ??

I use Flickr to post mine. I just upload to Flickr then get the image URL and put it on here in the same way that you would with Photobucket.

Re: The worst day ever....

Which surgery was Connor at? I'm in Ipswich too and, while I've never found brilliant rat vets, the ones I've had the best experience with were at The Barn on Ashcroft Road. I can't remember any individual vet's names though :(

Oh no :( Perhaps you could put something nasty tasting on his toes? Something that wouldn't harm him, of course...

Re: Weird twitching, jerking movements... seizures??

This sounds like what one of my boy's fits first looked like, they've now progressed to full blown, unmistakeable fits. His are only brought on by fear though (eg if I touch my cat and forget to wash my hands and he can smell him on me) so they're controllable and he's otherwise very healthy.

Re: Seizures in young rats

Thanks for the reply =]
The vet confirmed he is having seizures (he helpfully had one in the vet room) and they seem to be related to fear/stress, so I'm hoping if I can keep him out of stressful situations he'll have a minimal amount.

Seizures in young rats

I have a 4 month old boy who, about a week ago, started fluffing up and shaking his head in the way he would if something was irritating his ear, over and over for a few minutes. I initially thought he was reacting to the scent of my cat as I had him out on a chair that the cat tends to sleep on and...
