Re: Meds For OAP Chest Problems

I'm no expert, but the baytril dose you mentioned in your first post sounds low for a 600g rat, I don't know what others think. Is he still having the same dosages now as in your first post or are they different? Just wanted to clarify because it might help someone more experienced than me offer you...

Re: Spot-like lump on rex buck's back

Not an expert, but possibly a cyst? We've dealt with a couple and they've felt almost like a dried pea under the skin and were around the same size as one too. I would keep an eye on it for now and see if it gets any bigger than pea sized, in which case it could be an abscess. Maybe someone else wil...

Re: Rat Death

Hello, so sorry to hear about your loss, it must have been an awful shock. I'm not an expert so can't really offer any advice about what might have happened to your boy but with regards to adding new friends, if you are left with only one rat then getting him some company quickly is really important...

Re: Issues within the group after complicated neuter

Thank you so much for the replies and reassurance :) We're almost there with healing so I'm hoping to maybe try again with putting them back together tomorrow and praying that Oswald behaves himself; I think he's getting his own back for all the beatings up he's had  It's the first time we've ...

Issues within the group after complicated neuter

Ten days ago we had one of our bucks, Marley, neutered for bullying his two cagemates (neither of whom are neutered.) As he'd already opened himself back up before leaving the vets and seeing as we couldn't put only the calmer one of the others in with him we made the decision to separate him for a ...

Re: What is a suitable age to introduce babies

All the kittens we've introduced have been between 9 and 11 weeks, but we look at their size too and whether they are yet big enough to 'hold their own' if necessary during intros (we usually wait for the dinkier ones to grow a bit first,) don't know whether this helps. Exciting, you will have to sh...

Re: Where to find new rats (Sheffield)

The problem with pet shops is that the rats there are bred for quantity rather than quality, meaning that they are often more prone to health problems or are nervous around humans. Our very first pair of rats came from an 'exotics' pet shop and we were thought because they weren't from Pets At Home ...
