Re: Possible PT?

Got home from work and she was so hungry, ate a piece of popcorn, some coco pops, two pumpkin seeds and a quite a lot of her powdered high calorie food which was a relief. Had the loveliest vet who said it was worth continuing on as we are if she could be getting her appetite back and gave her a bay...

Re: Possible PT?

Thanks Cub, your advice is really appreciated. My main concern in the short term is that she's off her food and as she's already really quite underweight I fear she won't have a chance to possibly fight whatever this is. She did snatch a whole cheesestring off of me yesterday though and proceed to e...

Possible PT?

Hi All, I think our 18 month old female rat may have a PT. Symptoms are: - Lethargy - Decreased Appetite - Slight loss of balance - Tail flicking/writhing (I know this is normal for some rats, but she's never done this before) She's already very skinny (210g). This is due to multiple myco flareups a...

Re: Looking for a new complete mix/base mix

Great tip about the freezing - I'll definitely do that in future. You're right, I wasn't worried too much about the moths/eggs harming the rats, it just wasn't very pleasant!

Thanks for the recipe, I'll give that a go this time and see how they get on :D

Looking for a new complete mix/base mix

I normally purchase RatRations #11 but have noticed that they are closed until 3rd May. My food stocks are running low and sods law I'm going on holiday on 4th May for 17 days. I'd rather get some new food in place for them before I hand them over to my mum to be looked after. My current lot of RatR...

Re: HELP! Something stuck in throat?

She's doing much better now thank you. She's acting like normal Dill again which is great, although gets tired quite easily and keeps falling asleep in my top which is very unlike her but very cute nonetheless

Re: HELP! Something stuck in throat?

Ah great tip, thank you. I'll ask if they have any and if not I'll have a hunt around to see if I can find any as they sound ideal.

Re: HELP! Something stuck in throat?

She’s had her x-rays and they found absolutely nothing. No foreign objects, no unusual masses. They’ve weaned her off of oxygen now, only giving it to her in very occasional small drops to help her along but she’s coping fairly well without it now. Her breathing is still slightly laboured but much i...

Re: HELP! Something stuck in throat?

Wilcox - I’m so glad your boy is better. It really is terrifying to see, you just feel so helpless. I read your post and it’s given me some hope as it sounds like exactly the same situation. We went to see her at the vets the evening and she’s looking much much better. No longer retching, her eyes a...

Re: HELP! Something stuck in throat?

She vet called again around 10.30 and said that within minutes of being taken off of oxygen her breathing becomes laboured so have opted for anaesthesia and x-rays. I know the risks of anaesthesia are increased with breathing difficulties but I feel like its our only option (other than euthanasia). ...

Re: HELP! Something stuck in throat?

Just an update, we took her back to the vets at 3.30am this morning and asked them to keep her in. She was again very lethargic (mostly because she was exhausted I expect), producing a lot of saliva again, squeaking and generally looked like she was taking a turn for the worse. They’ve had her on ox...

Re: HELP! Something stuck in throat?

We got to around half 8 and decided to take her to the vets, she didn’t turn blue but after 2 hours her condition wasn’t improving. They put her on oxygen and tried to look down her throat - they couldn’t see anything. They gave her an anti-inflammatory/painkiller (meloxicam) and antibiotics (enrofl...

HELP! Something stuck in throat?

My 8 month old girl seems to have something stuck in her throat. She’s very lethargic and drooling. She keeps contorting her head back into her neck every minute or so. I had her out on my shoulder about half an hour before this started and she was fine. She’s been doing this for around 45minites no...

Re: 9 week old female making a strange noise

Just an update on this: After 4 days of Baytril & 3 days of Inflacam she (Dill) more or less stopped making the noise. By day 7, the noise was back. (Inflacam course was only 3 days) Took her back to the vets, who was a bit confused. The vet listened to her lungs, said they sounded clear and the noi...

Re: 9 week old female making a strange noise

Thank you cub that's a massive help. I'm certainly more inclined to trust you guys on here, no disrespect to my vet, I guess they don't get huge amounts of rat training... I'll definitely just go for 0.1ml twice a day. She loves barley rings so I can use that as a more absorbent second option. You a...
