Re: Older rat problem

I've moved my boys into a smaller cage, to make it easier on the less able boys and less risk of falls but they are sensible at getting around. I've got a few wooden platforms to put around the cage to help get into hammocks. I'm assuming kidney friendly food is from RR? I was thinking of buying sof...

Older rat problem

I currently have 3 36-month-old male rats, I did have 4 but one died after a vet visit last month. Two of my boys have some muscle weakness in their back legs which I believe is common in males (I've never owned males before or had rats that lived this long). One of my boys, Reuben, seems to be stru...

Re: Lung infection advice needed

We went to the vet today. Some positive news, the infection seems to have cleared it's just a lot of damage from the infection that needs to get cleared up. vet upped the dose of Loxicam to 0.78mls (weight is 580g). I've been advised to put him in a humid room for a while to help clear his lungs out...

Re: Lung infection advice needed

I tried and failed at that, I might try and use a little stand so I can see the screen better. It is thankfully how my vet does it. I tried my bathroom scales but they didn't even recognise I put anything on them. I'll show the vet what you've written so she can either change the dose or try the Dox...

Re: Lung infection advice needed

I've no idea of his weight but he was weighed by the vet. It was .4ml of Loxicom the small numbers confuse me sometimes. Both times it was 7 day courses.

I'll try to get him to the vet tomorrow and speak to them about Doxycycline. Thanks

Lung infection advice needed

My two year old male has had noisy breathing for a while I didn't realise what it was so a bit of a delay getting to a vet. He's been on two courses of .12mls of Baytril twice a day. The first course he got slightly better but as soon as it finished he was noisy again. The current course doesn't see...

Re: Sneezing Rats

I've actually just bought a lot of natural household cleaners to hopefully lessen any irritation from them as well. I'd rather rule out everything environmental including the detergent I use for their hammocks (non-bio only, no 2 in 1s) as I could be using a wee bit too much. Rory is around 400g. I ...

Re: Sneezing Rats

I made a minor error its 0.2ml. Dunno what made me think it was 0.02ml, maybe posting half asleep late at night. If only the weather in Scotland is so nice, it's been pretty damp here as usual. That doesn't affect pollen levels though. I've not given any Baytril today especially if it won't do any g...

Re: Sneezing Rats

It's random, not daily. Today there's been more sneezing than before. It started with one rat and now it's two Otherwise, they are all perfectly healthy. I had a large female (500g I think) she was a noisy sleeper and loved to blow her nose all me. There were no other health issues there. The only r...

Sneezing Rats

Two of my 7 month old boys have random sneezing episodes with some nose blowing. One was at the vet the during the week and she couldn't see/hear anything wrong. I was given some Baytril to give him once a day as a precaution. Today I hear one of my other boys sneezing. I've not noticed any blood or...

Re: Any ideas whats wrong

I don't think the vets I took Luna to see many rats. They'd have no problem operating on a different lump they just don't want to keep doing the same one over and over. Besides a head tilt from an injury a couple months ago Luna really lives up to her name.

Re: Any ideas whats wrong

Toffee hasn't improved any and has slowly been getting worse. I have a little inkling that it may be neurological in some way. She's only using one paw to hold food, seems at times to be confused and her balance is a little off. Toffee will be getting pts later today as it's the best thing for her. ...

Re: Any ideas whats wrong

Vets can't seem to find anything wrong with Toffee. Xray was clear. They didn't do blood as she wasn't out enough for them to be able to take anything. I've been advised to go to a small animal vet sadly there not a distance I can easily get to. It's worrying as they can't figure out whats wrong. I'...

Re: Any ideas whats wrong

Neither are things I keep in the house (I like neither). Toffee was drinking a little yesterday and this morning. I was also using a medicine syringe to give her water. She is currently at the vet getting an xray and blood test as I was getting concerned that she was showing no sign of improvement a...

Re: Any ideas whats wrong

I picked up Toffee earlier and felt a little lump at her back end. Had a check turns out she's got a little bit of poop showing. I checked a bit later and it was still there. Is there anyway to help her move her bowels? Would a return to the vet be advisable as I can't get her to drink much. I've be...
