Re: 2 adult male rats, Birmingham

Burrowed Hearts Rescue in Nottingham is absolutely fantastic. I rescued a ferret from Laura (she does not normally take ferrets) all the animals she has are wonderfully cared for in her home and treated as one of the family until they find their forever home. Re: Elderly boys general advice please

You can make easier, but challenging routes for oldies. When my boys got old I added more platforms and perches which they had to climb up, rather than adding easy ramps to get about. Watch carefully how far they feel safe to stretch/jump from platform to platform you can move them closer or further...

Re: Rat dip

Just a little advice OP. If you really want good advice on how to care for your rats then this is the place for you. I luckily found this site while researching rat care as my son wanted rats. I found and was given so much help and advice before getting our rats it was amazing, that help and advice ...

Re: Possible brain damage

Oh how awful for you. I know this is a different species, but I had a lurcher dog that ran into a tree, she had a broken neck and her brain swelled. She was very out of it for quite some time (extensive operations on her neck), but the swelling did go down. Hopefully it is similar to what has happen...

Re: I thought rats were supposed to be good pets?

It has been a while since I had rats, but one of our boys was very timid of us. He had been well handled by the lady who rescued them. It turned out to be mostly our fault that made Mario timid of us. We were overly gentle and not confident in handling him ourselves (they were our first rats), becau...

Re: New rat help please

If you are any where near Nottingham there is a lovely lady with two sets of babies.

I saw these when they were a few days old and been following their progress on facebook. So tempted myself to have some if I wasn't allergic :(

Re: Plastic tube

I gave up on those plastic tubes when I had our rats because they just chewed them up. If you have a carpet shop local to you, go and ask for some of the tubes that carpets are rolled around. These are great, usually free and an endless supply.

Re: Aquarium?

I would say no, even with a vivarium as most are full sliding glass at the front. This will not allow any air circulation and the smell would build up (ammonia from wee) and be not an pleasant environment for Rats.

Re: Back 2 Nature litter WARNING Please read..

Just got off the telephone with Stuart from Fibrecycle. They have checked the bag he took away and found more plastic :(, different colours this time. It appears a "free offer" type toy made its way into the process. However their screening process should have removed it (any thing like this gets ca...

Re: Back 2 Nature litter WARNING Please read..

Had a great meeting with the Fibrecycle rep this morning, He was very concerned about the bits of plastic in the bags, he also noted the amount of dust that clouded up when he ran his had through the bag. I have to admit I am really surprised that someone came to my home regarding this complaint and...

Re: Back 2 Nature litter WARNING Please read..

Update: I have been contacted by the local representative for Fibrecycle UK, very nice man. They are coming to my home to collect the bits of plastic and the remainder of the bag on Tuesday. Their response has been very quick, it will be investigated.

Back 2 Nature litter WARNING Please read..

If you use Back 2 Nature litter, Please please check your bags carefully. I have discovered in my bag of back 2 nature plastic and a bit of metal. (the small grey piece is metalic) http://i495.photobucket.com/albums/rr311/star-and-two-comets/DSCF0412.jpg It is only small but it is sharp, I have only...

Re: Whether to PTS

Having any pet PTS is really hard, especially your first one. The best thing to remember is she has had a wonderful life with you, think of all the positive parts of the life you shared together. I know it is something that you never want to end, with any pet. The "quality of life" is the hardest th...

We had our rats and hamster in the same room. Never had any problems, although the cages were on opposite sides of the room.
