Rat Train - Bristol to Rosslare or Cork

I'm trying to get three boys over to their new home with my cousin in Ireland in mid-late August. She lives in Cork but can pick them up from Rosslare Europort (or anywhere between there and Cork I suspect) on a weekend.

If anyone can help it would be super appreciated.

Re: Critter Nation Security & Qs.

Thank you. I did wonder that about the substrate but saw some set ups with litter trays and dig boxes. I agree about the smell for sure. I've now opted for the SRS because it has deeper trays for the litter.

Critter Nation Security & Qs.

I have two groups of rats, 1 with two girls and a neutered boy, the other is currently one lone unneutered boy (hoping to find him friends soon though so then will be 3-4 unneutered boys). Is it secure enough to keep both groups in a critter nation or can the bottom group get through to the top grou...

Re: Insence/Air freshener that's safe to use?

Another thing you could try is to hang up small bags of fragrant dried herbs/flowers around your room, or maybe have a bowl of them on the windowsill or a chest of drawers. Make sure they're out of reach of the rats, and preferably nothing that will harm the rats if they do get hold of them. Then yo...

Re: Insence/Air freshener that's safe to use?

Are they still settling in? I find nervous rats or rats that are settling can smell worse because of the fear poos (that smell really does make me feel sick). Otherwise it's probably just their natural smell. Make sure you have a highly absorbent bedding. I find Back 2 Nature (you can get it from Am...

Ah okay, thanks for smashing apart my theory. I suppose it's just coincidence then and my particular red eyed rats that are nervy.

Re: I thought rats were supposed to be good pets?

As said, 20 minutes of being on you at least once a day is a great way to build trust. It will take time, maybe several months, for them to come around completely. It all depends on the rat. I've used this method though and it works well. I've had rats that I thought would NEVER come around, who eve...

Red Eyed Rats

I've had three red eyed rats now and they've all been terrified of people, specifically of being picked up. One, a marten, is terrified of everything else as well. I've only met four red-eyed rats, and the second marten that I met (not mine) was an absolute lovely cuddlebug but he seems an exception...

Re: Do rats understand negative re-enforcement?

I'm sure they do understand it. I had one rat who would just ignore anything I said or did, but the others I trained fairly successfully not to go into my bookshelves, despite being rat climbing height. I would always tell them firmly, 'no', and then get them out and put them in their cage so they h...

Attacking Feet

My older rat (2 years old), who I've had for nearly a year, has suddenly starting attacking my feet. Just the last week or two, if I'm in the room, she makes a beeline for them and even if I'm sat down, where before she'd climb onto my lap, she now darts around the side of my legs to go for my feet....

Need Advice on Nebulisers

I need to get a nebuliser for my rat, but I have no idea which one will be best. I want something cheap, light and quiet, and with parts that are easy and affordable to replace, as I reckon I'll probably be using it quite a lot. I've been going through amazon reviews for a couple of hours, and not a...

Re: Poorly rat? Weight loss, less active, can't clean tail..

Poor skadi. It could be a number of things but my first thought is her heart. I am sure somebody with more experience will be able to advise. Is there anything I could do to help with this if it was? I ordered some weight up for the weight loss, but maybe high calorie, fatty things aren't a good id...

Poorly rat? Weight loss, less active, can't clean tail...

My rat, Skadi, is about 19 months old and has always been very active (/naughty) and not at all cuddly but lately she's lost weight, is sleeping more and far less active, and when I get her out she isn't climbing all over the place and running around like she used to, but is a lot more cuddly. I wou...
