Re: Meds For OAP Chest Problems

Thanks so much Caza66. Really thinking there must have been something else going on, haven't got it out of my mind all day. He started acting quiet last weds (13.06), breathing was bad thurs 14th and then today passed. Really not like the couple of lads I've had in past with URIs. He was gasping thi...

Re: Meds For OAP Chest Problems

Ollie passed away in my arms this morning. I can't believe he went downhill so quickly, completely off his food yest and found him at bottom of the cage quite cold this morn at 8am, he came and lay with me on bed and was gone by 8.20. Appeared to have a seizure then stopped breathing. He was amazing...

Re: Meds For OAP Chest Problems

Back from vets. Thankfully one of the nice ones. Yes he was waaay underdosed Baytril, we've just been prescribed 0.5ml twice a day!! Useless blinking vet, won't be seeing her again! Feel so bad for him that hasn't had what he's needed, my poor boy. Also came home with Ronaxan 20mg tabs (1/4 twice a ...

Re: Meds For OAP Chest Problems

I've been giving him 0.2 of Baytril twice a day, slightly more than vet suggested. And 3/4 of a tablet of clavaseptin. Yest and this morning gave 0.3 Baytril. Been a bit scared to give too much as not really dealt with it before. We've got vets at 6, had to get him in as looking so unwell and felt s...

Re: Meds For OAP Chest Problems

Me again. Sorry I'm an incredibly large pain in the backside. He's not shown much, if any, improvement from the meds. His breathing is really heavy and has gone off food even more. Despises me as I've been having to syringe all his meds, refusing pretty much everything. The vets gave me more Baytril...

Meds For OAP Chest Problems

Hi, my lovely boy turned 2 on Monday, never had any problems in the past (apart from being a bit of a porky pig!). Weds was a little quiet when out in evening (normally my cuddle buddy but stayed away). Yest morn his breathing was a bit heavy, I was out all day and when I got home at 8pm was really ...

Re: Ear Infection or Pituitary Tumour?!

Unfortunately looks like Zig's infection's back :( Grr, very annoyed!! Weighed him on Saturday and had gone from 590g to 565g in ten days. Then yest a few strange moments, rubbing ear on side of his bed and jumping up and down the cage to me. Awake more than usual daytime, just odd really. A bit qui...

Re: Preparing for first experience of euthanasia :(

I'm so sorry, missed your post.
Glad it all went ok and hope you're feeling a bit better today.

It's always nice to have videos and pics to remind you of all the fun times :)
And a lovely idea to plant a shrub, even more to remind you of what a great ratty she was xxx

Re: Ear Infection or Pituitary Tumour?!

Yes I've most definitely learnt a lot too!!

He really has amazed me, feared I'd have to PTS not long ago. He's now put on even more weight and was 555g yest morning!

I've never used steroids with ratties before, only my cat who's been on and off them for years, her only issue was the weight gain!!

Re: Preparing for first experience of euthanasia :(

Sorry you're having such a hard time, def sounds like the best thing you could do for her though. Yep vet bills are nasty, I prefer not to check mine!! 12 years of a cat with flea allergy dermatitis, a chinchilla with teeth problems for five years (pts two months ago, vets miles away so at least £40...

Re: Ear Infection or Pituitary Tumour?!

I know, amazing really considering what a state he was in, I'm chuffed! He's definitely Zig again, seemed to have a sudden change last weds and started doing all of the things he normally does! Yup, causing trouble :) Seemed to be ok with the Prednisolone for the first week, only lost 10g despite no...

Re: Ear Infection or Pituitary Tumour?!

A quick update on Zig! Really struggled to get a urine sample as he was drinking so much less last week (in carrier for three hours weds, thurs and fri but nothing!). Thankfully managed today and vet called a little while ago to say no glucose!! I've got to get another sample in a couple of weeks ju...

Re: Ear Infection or Pituitary Tumour?!

Thanks a lot for the links :) Due for a ratrations order soon so I'll get studying!! They've always had a mixture of no7 and 11a or b with a few bits thrown in, the last 6ish months I've mixed in Banana Brunch for a bit of variety and the vitamins etc, although I do take out 90% of the banana! Am re...

Re: Ear Infection or Pituitary Tumour?!

The vet called last night about the urine sample. She couldn't find any blood in it etc but did find high levels of glucose :( I've got to take another sample in tomorrow. She said she'll do some research about diabetic rats as never personally treated them. I mentioned the septrin and she was happy...

Re: Urine Sample

Thanks again for reply!
Got one last night but he did a huge pee as soon as I got him out earlier so that's at the vets.
Fingers crossed it's good news!
