Re: Updating diet for older girls

Thanks, cub, that's very helpful - I think I'll roughly keep going as I am then without cutting out too much protein and just keep an eye on them not eating too many meal worms as I was doing and maybe cut down slightly on the Arden Grange in my mix too. I did get DR3 early on and then tried the com...

Updating diet for older girls

I am planning a rat rations order and wondered if I need to buy anything different now that my girls are getting older. I have been feeding them on about 1/3 11a rat rations mix to 2/3 HBB based mix (6 scoops HBB, 1 scoop Arden Grange kibble, 2 scoops of low sugar versions of weetabix and cornflakes...

chewing a lot of plastic

One of my rats (and quickly teaching at least one of the other two, all about a year and a half old) have got into the habit of chewing the edge of the Sputnik. They have never bothered before even though they always slept in the sputnik over hammocks, but in the last couple of months they started c...

Re: What to do with leftover mix?

Oh good idea! All the things I'd found said peanut butter but I didn't want to do that. Maybe a bit of flour too will help it shape.

Re: What to do with leftover mix?

I have come to the dusty, seedy bit of my tub and want to make a seed cake too. Does anyone have a recipe or suggestion of how to do this? I mainly have seeds and maybe the RR powders leftover and have some herbs I want to mix in. Thinking I'd like some kind of recipe that will let me make little ma...

Re: Supplements for 3 rats + how to give denes mixer

thanks Mary :)

Can I just double check that 2.5ml of each supplement will be enough for all 3 rats or was that per rat? And is that the weekly dose, so if i was to make up a bottle twice a week I should use half that amount?

Supplements for 3 rats + how to give denes mixer

I have got three does who are a couple months short of being a year old. I was hoping I could get some advice on how to provide them with supplements. Their main diet is a HBB based mix (HBB + cereals, seeds, herbs and Burns Kibble), mixed half with 11a for adults from rat rations. With their fresh ...

How about either of these? http://www.littlepetwarehouse.co.uk/hamberley-single-metal-large-cage-p-12607.html http://www.littlepetwarehouse.co.uk/little-friends-double-metal-chinchilla-ferret-cage-stand-p-16637.html I have no experience of them and only one of them has reviews on that site. They're ...

Re: toy ideas

Small cardboard box could be an empty tissue box! Ready made hole :) I use the square ones on the floor a lot and I once hung one of the long style ones from the top of the cage. They loved snuggling down inside the hole and then chewing up the box while they were in there. And it of course got soak...

Re: The death of Plastikote

I bought a couple of plastikote pots for £1 each in Wilkos - can't remember when, sometime within the last 2 weeks, so now is the time to pop in and see if there's discontinued stock being sold off cheap!

friendly, brave rat, suddenly acting terrified

My rats are typically VERY brave and adventurous, come straight out if the cage door is open, spend most of their time doing stunts and are very happy to be picked up and love climbing all over me. Ruta has generally been my most loving licky one. From day one they were all comfortable around me and...

Re: Poundland tea towels

I buy those microfibre ones for my rats! I'd been thinking of mentioning them on this forum as they're really good value. One of my rats has ridiculously long nails and she been ok on them - i can kind of hear a scratchy snaggy sound sometimes when she walks on it, but the fibres are not long enough...

Re: Dry mix, anything missing?

Hello Right now, I have almost the same ingredients as Akitu30 but so far no one has really said what proportions should be used using her ingredients. I posted a little while ago with a similar question and having finally ordered from rat rations, I would also like to start making up my mix (unfort...

Re: Stupid question, how do you weigh your rats?

I do the same as Maidenhair Moxie - put them straight on my flat digital £10 Argos scales (I wonder if we have the same ones..I picked purple :) ) with some puffed rice sprinkled on one side so they sit still right in the middle. The treat doesn't even register as a gram on the scale. I wasn't havin...
