ok so she has had the implant it was 112 gbp and her behaviour is totally calmer, i can pick her up, she runs around all night without biting me in fact shes not bothered about me really anymore she used to chase me constantly the whole mischief is happier and my double rex isnt getting bullied anym...

HI guys i just wanted to update this

we had the hormonal implant in rosie a week ago

she is CURED

completely different rat, she hangs out with her sisters they groom each other she has stopped attacking me i can pick her up she likes a scratch.

i am relieved

They are taken to a specialist exotics vet in Manchester called ashleighs.

Hormonal Implant for rats

Has anyone had any experience with effectively the contraceptive implant in rats?
My vet has suggested it.
I just wanna say I've been to three vets and they are all really reluctant to spay rats unless absolutely necessary. I'm surprised!

its funny when you google it loads of people say dont spay female rats for behaviour but when you speak to rat owners so many of them say it helps im thinking of getting it done too
im glad im not alone my girl bites too
i love her so much so its really hard!!!!!!!

my boys wee everywhere its never sprayed out though, maybe they had some on their tail and it flicked?

Just make sure youve got plenty of absorable substrate down

ive got three girls too and theyre so much less wee-y its unreal!!!

hi guys!! sorry for the delayed response ive had tons of uni work to do. ok so.. when rosie was on the meds she was better. im not sure if that was because of the increased daily handling. but shes progressively gone back to her old behaviour. shes just as bad as she used to be now and theres a lot ...

I’m sure you already are but if not mix the weight up with boiling water instead of warm or cold I find it becomes much smoother and mixes better

I took her to the vet to see if they thought she might have something wrong with her like cystic ovaries or something like that. I take her to a specialist exotic vet called ashleigh vets in Manchester. The vet said her behaviour sounded typical of toxoplasma and it was the first thing they suspect ...
