Re: Death post-castration *may be upsetting/graphic*

So sorry for your loss. I lost one of my rats, Hartley, shortly after he came round from the anaesthetic after being neutered.

Re: Elderly rat can't hold food to eat properly.

Please don't blame yourself - i didn't realise till quite late on with my first experience of a rat with a PT either. It was 2 or 3 days before i saw the classic sign of a PT, the loss of use in his front paws.

Re: Mites?

When my rats have been really scratchy, ive often noticed scabs on their backs & i have treated them with spot-on which does work well.

Re: treatment not working..

0,1ml daily is a very low dose of Baytril. Often my boys are on 0.2ml twice a day when they have been wheezy. Septrum is a broad spectrum antibiotic. I have used it when my 3 boys were little & they were wheezy. They were just under the age that you could start using Baytril so my vet gave me Septru...

Re: Elderly rat can't hold food to eat properly.

I hate PT's. Ive had 2 of my boys Hector & Topov who developed PT's. The loss of use of the front paws is a classic sign. The rat rations wet mash is good. I have some in stock just in case i need to make some up for my boys.

Re: Doxycycline questions

The first injection of oxytretracycline worked for a good four/five weeks despite the vet being adament that Achilles wheezyness was an allergy & not an infection despite me telling her that he had responded to the baytril until it stopped working. She refused to give him some more antibiotics until...

Re: Doxycycline questions

The oxytetracycline seems to do the trick for Achilles but the only down side is that he has to go to the vets each time & has to have an injection.

Re: Doxycycline questions

I'm not buying doxycyine online without a prescription. I'm trying to get information such as trade name for my vet so the surgery can see if they can get it in for me so I can have some for when Achilles is wheezy again.

Doxycycline questions

I have just taken Achilles to the vets tonight as he is wheezy again. The vet checked him out & his chest is clear but he has an upper respiratory infection again. Baytril has stopped working so the vet game him some long acting oxytretracycline which he has had once before & it worked for a good 4/...

Thinning fur on Ajax's face.

I have noticed over the last couple of days that the fur on the right hand side of ajax's face is getting quite thin. I did notice tonight that there is a small wound on his face. It isn't bleeding & doesn't seem to be causing him discomfort. I have noticed that in the mornings that there sometimes ...

I use low fat ambrosia ready made custard works a treat with my boys. Though I do have to give the others a little bit of custard on a spoon so that they don't steal the medication laced custard.

Re: Wheezy Achillies & a battle at the vets.

I'm just pleased that Achilles is finally wheeze free as this episode had been going on since January. It was the same vet that I saw in January because be was wheezy & she prescribed him 0.1ml baytril daily, which didn't really work.
