Pet safe paints

Hi, My Libertab Explorer has some rust and flaking paint on the trays and needs re-coating. I've had a search through other posts and rustoleium has been mentioned several times and seems liken a good option. There have been a few mentions of people using Hammerite. While this would be an ideal hard...

Re: Recommendations for air filters

Hi there, They have been fed lab blocks since being weaned and are now approx 4 months old. Can't be more accurate on age, I believe they came from pets at home initially and I have adopted them from someone who had some allergy issues and couldn't keep them. They are nice healthy active boys. I hav...

Recommendations for air filters

Hi, all, It's been a while since I posted. Lost my last boy in Feb but now have 3 boys since Saturday! Just wanted to ask if anyone uses an air filter that is effective? I couldn't afford one before but now I'm a bit better off financially. I'm using shredded card as a substrate and I've sprinkled a...

Re: Advice with an aggressive rat

Thanks for the advice. I read up on the carrier method last week. It seemed a little extreem for 2 rats that have already been cage mates but at the same time I want to do it right and do it once (hopefully) so I'll go with your advice. Would 1 level in the explorer be too big for this method do you...

Re: Advice with an aggressive rat

UPDATE So I had to impromptuly separate the boys because Jin became far too aggressive to a point where I actually felt wary of him his behaviour changed so much. This settled down once he was on his own. I had him neutered today, I decided to wait until I had annual leave so I could keep a close ey...

Re: Advice with an aggressive rat

Seen the vet today, he was honest enough to say his experience with rats is not great but he has given some antibiotics to cover the bite. He thinks that the best option is to neuter Jin and see how things go. izzerie, thanks for the advice.

Re: Advice with an aggressive rat

Thanks for the reply. Like you said I have been watching them very closely the the last couple of weeks. I think it's a saving grace that mugen is far more agile than Jin and can get around the cage much quicker. One thing I forgot to mention is that Jin marks EVERYTHING at the moment, he'll even cl...

Advice with an aggressive rat

Hi, I've got 2 boys almost 6 months old. They've always squabbled and I took it as normal as there was lots of squeaking and never any foul. Also it's been difficult to determine who is alpha. Over the last month however I noticed Jin becoming a little more dominant/aggressive with Mugen. When I get...

Re: Does anyone reccomend this cage?

Thanks for everyones advice. I ended up modding the jenny so the bottom 1/3 completely opened....then 2 days later got an explorer with some birthday money I'd been saving but decided their need was greater than mine! Think it was a VERY good decision or perhaps not because now I'm thinking There's ...

Re: Behaviour or ilness?

I think this is possibly behaviour related but is it good or bad? Are they just establishing who's the alpha? The chirping is still happening but much less at the moment. My boys are always bruxing when I'm around and it seems that sometimes the chirping starts when I approach the cage and chat to t...

Re: Behaviour or ilness?

I've done a bit more looking and everything I can find relates chirping to positives and genrally happy rats or it could be hiccups! Just strange he makes it after a scrap.

Behaviour or ilness?

Hi everyone, Couldn't find a relevant post so thought I'd ask. I've had my 2 boys for almost 4 weeks now and they are almost 10 weeks old. In the last week they have been squabbling a little more than usual but it appears to be adolescet squabbles as there's no harm done. Jin has been the most confi...

Re: Does anyone reccomend this cage?

Thanks for the tips. Cooling racks sound perfect and somthing I completley overlooked. I think my problem is analysis paralysis and I've really over thought it. Will do somthing with it this weekend and will use the mesh to make a nice big free roaming enclosure. I know my boys aren't ready for that...
