Re: Bedding help

I find Aubiose makes me cough, so I wouldn't recommend another bale - the best option from RR would be a mix of bedmax and greenmile, having both shavings and cardboard works really well. Steer clear of softacard though, if you think cardboard gets soggy, then softacard is even worse, and it gets ve...

Re: Rear end weakness

Those aren't PT symptoms, and he is quite young for HLD, but similar symptoms can be caused by kidney issues - it might be worth getting his urine checked, and ensure they are on a kidney friendly food mix.

Re: Savic royal xl

The thread is already titled XL, so I think that's what the OP is talking about.

Welcome to the forum Jenny :D
Yes the XL halves will be fine for those sized groups. Have you though about merging the groups though? (using the carrier method) They'd love the whole space between them. :luck:

How did she get on at the vet? It could be that she'd injured her eye, it got infected, and she was in a lot of pain, but I'm afraid there is a virus (SDAV) which can produce symptoms which include a bulging eye. I hope she's on the mend.

Re: New Rat Owner Health Query for Baby Dumbo rat

Kittens will sleep a lot, but shouldn't seem lethargic at all - is she gaining weight? The minimum age a kitten should be homed at is actually 6 weeks - if she really is only 3 then that is appalling :( and a sign that the breeder is not responsible. Could you post a picture so we can judge her age?...

Re: Baytril dosage query

There are three possibilities with regard to Custard's sneezing... 1) it could be caused by stress, and apart from being in a new home, stress may also be due to him not having a similar aged companion - young rats need a similar aged playmate to develop alongside through play. 2) whilst all rats ha...

That's so good to hear

Any chance of a picture? Are they wild or were they abandoned by a pet doe?

Re: Baby Rats

At that age you should be able to see their stomachs filling up - the milk band is visible through the skin. They look as though they can fit about 0.5 - 1ml in. Are they responding when you toilet them? It is very difficult to hand raise rat kittens from that age, I wish you luck, but you maybe sho...

Re: If I put rocks in the cage will they pee on them?

I wouldn't put rocks in as decoration, I'd think there could be a risk of one getting hurt if the rock rolled (by being undermined), and it's like to get mucky underneath it. For a natural look, fill the cage with branches for navigation, natural looking plant pots for beds, wooden perches, sisal ro...

I've found rats are more relaxed if the cage is raised a bit - even if it's only by 6".

There is a chance it could be parasitic bronchitis, so it's worth applying some ivermectin.

Yes it can be a sign of stress. Keep an eye on them though in case an opportunistic bug like myco affects them.
