Re: Preparing for first experience of euthanasia :(

I got lots of photos and video before she had the first surgery (just in case she hadn't made it through). She was such a sweetheart. :)

I'm sure tomorrow will be easier after a sleep. Thank you. Xxx

Re: Preparing for first experience of euthanasia :(

It's done. Managed to hold it together until she handed me the box. She was really lovely and explained everything and said we'd made the right decision. We have buried her in the garden with a shrub on top. Can't stop crying at the moment. I loved her so so much and she'll always have a speci...

Re: Preparing for first experience of euthanasia :(

I wrote a long message to cub but it's vanished!

Re: Preparing for first experience of euthanasia :(

Sorry you're having such a hard time, def sounds like the best thing you could do for her though. Yep vet bills are nasty, I prefer not to check mine!! 12 years of a cat with flea allergy dermatitis, a chinchilla with teeth problems for five years (pts two months ago, vets miles away so at least £4...

Re: Preparing for first experience of euthanasia :(

Thank you so much for your kind and useful words and thank you for the advice. We have 3 2year olds and 2 1 year olds at the moment. Unfortunately I've developed a skin allergy that gets worse by the month (a small scratch leaves my whole hand incredibly itchy even with antihistamines) so we won't b...

Preparing for first experience of euthanasia :(

My beautiful Angora has a vet appointment on Friday to be put to sleep. Before Christmas she developed a tumour near her bottom (not mammary) and despite our fears she pulled through the operation without complications and seemed to be doing really well. Sadly it has spread and as well as a tumour o...

Re: My first (stressful) week as a rat owner

Thankfully the craziness ended as quickly as it had begun! They're getting up in the mornings again too, which is nice as DD gets to have a stroke. We're still getting the occasional sneeze but they're all so full of energy that I still think it's not worth the stress of a vet trip. They all like to...

Re: My first (stressful) week as a rat owner

I got my first (and hopefully last) proper bite yesterday. It was entirely my own fault. I put my finger into the sputnik to give Adeline a little stroke. Adeline is the bitiest of our rats as her eyesight isn't very good. She really got me but luckily near the knuckle so not much blood. I won't mak...

Re: My first (stressful) week as a rat owner

It's taken me forever to get on here to reply! It makes me sad to think of my poor little Apple having a seizure but it seems to make sense. Thankfully we haven't had anymore accidents or health scares. In fact, the sneezing is now very rare and they all seem very healthy. Even treats won't make the...

Re: My first (stressful) week as a rat owner

Thanks Cub! We had our first big scare at the weekend. We came down on Sunday morning to find Apple in the corner of the cage, not really moving much and surrounded by her wee and poo. I put the bonding pouch in and she walked into it. She started moving a bit more but seemed very weak and in pain. ...

Re: My first (stressful) week as a rat owner

Hi, Just an update on my little girls. They are getting bigger, which makes picking them up so much easier! Still all well under 200g but gradually putting on weight and looking very healthy. They have tried lots of new foods now and seem to like most of the vegetables but not too keen on fruit. The...

Re: My first (stressful) week as a rat owner

Thanks again for all the info. They were 7 1/2 weeks at the last weigh in. I'm due to weigh them today so hopefully they're still putting on weight. I checked their weights online and it seems within the normal range. That's how I worked out that they were only 5 weeks 6 days when they came (I was t...

Re: My first (stressful) week as a rat owner

Thank you Marris :) I was going to update as it's been very up and down. Having adopted a child, we're well used to one step forward one step back and I think it will be like that with the girls! I put the big litter tray in and I've seen 2 of them using it. Almost all poos seem to be going in there...

Re: My first (stressful) week as a rat owner

Thank you Elizabeth! Their tiny bit of bread with a spread of Nutella is now an even tinier bit of bread as they were just eating the bits with Nutella on!! We still have sneezes now and then but they've definitely reduced, and I haven't heard any more wheezing. We're also still getting porphyrin on...
