Re: Is this normal baby rat behaviour?

Thanks for the timetable squirrel, that's really helpful :)

I think ours are a bit more nocturnal lol but they seem to be slowly adjusting.

2 weeks on and are they settling in OK?

Hi, I was wondering if you could give me some advice (again!) on the progress of domesticating/friending our new rats. We got them 2 weeks ago when they were 6 weeks old and we've had them out everyday since then. We get them out in the kitchen and they seem to enjoy themselves wandering around and ...

Re: Are there any products that make their claws less sharp?

OK it sounds like there not much more I can do except clipping them if they get too long. At the minute they're not too bad so I'll hold off for now and see how it goes.

Thanks everyone :)

Re: Is this food mix OK for our new rats?

Ah I thought it looked like a lot. Thanks for the correction. I feel like I'm a lot more clued up now so hopefully they'll appreciate the fresh meals and vitamins :) They definitely prefer to be running around than sitting on my lap but at the minute they generally run back to the carry box after a ...

Are there any products that make their claws less sharp?

Hi, As you can see from my previous posts we've just got some baby bucks and we're really enjoying holding them and playing with them but they're claws are already quite sharp and we're worried they're only going to get longer or sharper. Does anyone have anything in their cage that files them down?...

Re: Is this food mix OK for our new rats?

Thanks for the help. Our mix is made up of: 2 parts Rat rations 11, 3 parts Harrison's banana brunch rabbit food, 1 part mixed cereal and 3 parts Mr Johnson's rat and mouse food. After your advice we only give 30g now for the two of them. So get 25g of the above mix and then add 5g of shrimps. Do yo...

Re: Is this normal baby rat behaviour?

Thanks Mary, that's really helpful advice. Does it matter what yogurt?

Is it OK to wake them up for play time or should we wait for them to wake up naturally? One of them sleep so much I don't think we could do it without waking him up?

Thanks

Is this normal baby rat behaviour?

Hi everyone, A couple of days ago we picked up our 6 week old baby boys. I know it's very early to judge but I just have a few worries I'd rather talk about than sit on. The biggest one is that one of them bit my son and then me soon after. It wasn't a nibble as he really hung on. At the time we had...

Is this food mix OK for our new rats?

Hi everyone, We're picking up our new 8 week old bucks next week and would just like to check if what we plan to feed them is OK please. I've done some research and plan on giving them a mix of: Rat rations 11, Harrison's banana brunch rabbit food, mixed cereal and Mr Johnson's rat and mouse food. A...

Re: Question about varieties please

I intend to thank you. I just like doing a bit of research before so I can ask the right questions and have a good conversation.

Plus she's been really nice and I didn't want to bother her with anymore silly questions, goodness knows I've asked quite a few so far :)

Question about varieties please

Hi, I'm currently looking at getting a pair of male rats for our family and have read some articles about some varieties being prone illnesses. For example I heard white rats with black eyes are prone to be poorly and so are split caps. Is this true and if so would you be wary of getting a Russian b...

Hi again.

I just wanted to say thanks for all of the great advice, we've had a few names so fingers crossed it works out soon.

I can't wait to have a pair of new additions to the family :)
