Re: Help please - newbie with 3 biting does

I think upset is probably a bit harsh a word, but I don't want people to think they can't approach me! :) I'm always happy to help, just sometimes takes a while to reply if I'm on shift! :)

Re: Help please - newbie with 3 biting does

Hi. I'm a bit upset that I didn't have any advance warning of this post, I was under the impression that everything was fine, but im really sorry to hear you are having problems. No, this nipping is not normal behaviour. Their sisters are very highly confident rats, and have no qualms about telling ...

Re: possible Tumour removal

Oh, it's fine - i knew what you meant! Just thought it would be useful for me to find out where the specialist is at! I sent them a message not too long ago though, and the quote they gave me for a neuter was ridiculously expensive - so i'll stick to Broomhill i think!

Re: possible Tumour removal

I go to see anneke over other vets, because she admits when she doesnt know what is happening, and seeks advice. Id rather that than a vet who just gives you baytril and sends you on your way! She is fantastic at operating, but as I have a science background, I tend to just ask her for whatever meds...

Re: Petshop Rats

I've seen some pretty well marked variegated in my local p@h recently (yes, it's bad, but its the cheapest cat food i can buy that my super fussy flatfaced freak will eat all of the flavours of).

Re: new born dumbo rats [clicking noises when breathing]

Are you sure it's not just that they are trying to suckle? If i pick baby rats up and put them in my hand, they nuzzle up to my hand and try to find a teat to suckle, and make a sort of pop-y crackly noise? Like a goldfish.

Re: URGENT - swollen sticking out penis

Bumping an old topic because it's easier! But i've got a 12 wk (but looks 7 wk) buck with 'issues' with his anal sphincter (he had ring tail as a kitten, so it's damaged the anal nerves and i have to squeeze poo out of him every day) who had obviously been trying to squeeze out a giant poo, and in t...

Re: Swollen foot - Pus

TMP-SMZ is trimethoprim sulfamethoxazole. Its the generic name for septrin. Co-amoxiclav will be a much better option with something like that. Id be worried there was bone involvement with the consistency of that pus. I would ask for a topical antibiotic too, as I bet there isnt much getting to the...

Re: Making Zithromax suspension

It doesn't say ANYWHERE on either the packet or the inside sheet the weight of the powder in the bottle. When it's reconstituted, each 5ml of liquid contains 200mg azithromycin. I think they don't give an exact weight of the powder, as it can vary from batch to batch, as long as the concentration re...

Re: HELP: URI; Trouble giving meds, vet wanting to euthanize

Both of those meds can be injected (although a lot of people don't like injecting baytril as there is a slight risk of a baytril burn - and for that reason, i won't inject it myself at home, but my vet is brilliant at it). Unless your vet is willing to let you have injectables to take home though, y...

God, makes me realise how much i love my vet. I go in, and she goes 'what meds do you want?' and then she gives them me, and tells me off for how many rats i have, and i go home.
