Re: cellulitis! Best ABs or aren't they needed

Merc said it was a VERY poorly finger! The lumps were really concerning - I've had rats with suspected cellulitis before a couple of times over the years but nothing like this. I saw the same vet as first time when I went back for the 3rd time. She wondered if it was time to think about manual inter...

Re: cellulitis! Best ABs or aren't they needed

Just in case anyone's interested. Merc did manage 4-5 days of Septrin before deciding it was awful and then I got him switched onto Baytril At that point the swelling was less but there was clearly pus in the shoulder lump, muhc of which the vet managed to get out. Kept him on baytril with a view to...

cellulitis! Best ABs or aren't they needed

My blue boy Mercury got in a scuffle with his brother a week ago. Basically Storm might or might not have hurt Merc's finger (there was a hurt finger) and so Merc kicked off at 3 in the morning. When I check them before work (told them to behave when I went in there at stupid o'clock and the trouble...

Re: RatOutofHell Rescue taking a break

(((HUGE HUGS))) I never did rescue on the scale you have but even I know how much it takes it out of you (memories of standing in the shower in tears after being let down on a rehome) and I've had that conversation with other rescues too. Look forward to being Shipratted if and when you feel ready t...

Re: Where would I go to ask about getting 2 new rats?

I've never heard of dumbo rats being less prone to health problems or the cold? do you know where you read/heard that?

Well done on not getting ratties from pet shops, good luck with finding some lovely new friends

Re: testosterone drop post-castration

I can actually see the difference in Mr Blue - can see he's less tense and he's floofy less often

I can agree with this - already seeing it in Mr Blue after 2 weeks, but he still spikes every so often (he wasn't ever aggressive all the time)

Hammock making people - check Lidls website

Just seen on Lidl's website that they have a DIY event next week and have tools for eyelets.

Also reusable cable ties - presumably they're only reusable before they've been chewed through though!

Re: ZGT question

thank you. I had a facial tumour before that may or may not have been a ZGT. First signs of it were a general unwell-ness and trouble swallowing before the swelling started to come up. I was beating myself up over Hugo, thinking it was because he'd continually bothered at his face where he had a scr...

Re: ZGT question

Oscar's fuzzy fur grew back, balded a bit again. There was a feint wiff from his ear so I had him on baytril and it was clear but I was suspicious I could smell something again yesterday. I'm paranoid after Hugo. Took him to the vets and he couldn't find anything ominous, just that his ear is a bit ...

Re: Filling food bowl with bedding

I have a Jamie Oliver Salt pig in the cage as a dried food container. The girls fill it with paper when it's empty of food.
