Slow rat at 22 months

Hello, I am looking for some thoughts and advice. We have 6 rats, the 3 eldest of which are 22 month old sisters. They have been generally very well up to now. However over the last few weeks one of them, Popcorn, just seems to have been slowing down. It’s been a slow, gradual slowing up. Her sister...

Re: NFRS survey on health and lifespan

Hi Mary,

I assume we are not able to participate in this? We have 2 silvermane babies born in March which have Zephyr parents x2 (and what beautiful, fun, sociable, loving girls they are :D ). They were bred by Elin.
Happy to participate if we are able.

Best wishes,
Helen

I am no expert and have no answers but I wanted to say I am so sorry for your loss. Hopefully someone will come along soon with some possibilities for you.

Take care x

Re: Lump in throat

Good luck to Yondu today. I hope the operation is a success and the lump turns out to be something simple.

Re: The Crazy Rat Trip

More great news today that Maze has had 11 babies. All going well so far :D So, we brought 19 rats to Sweden and have had 4 litters born in the last 10 days or so. A total of 39 live babies - 16 does and 23 bucks. I am over the moon and it feels like the crazy rat trip was well worth it. I am sure t...

Re: The Crazy Rat Trip

I suggested Spotted Dick but it went down like a lead balloon! The breeder concerned told me her Mum said it sounded like a nasty disease and she couldn't get that thought out of her head. Personally I thought it would have been a great name

Re: The Crazy Rat Trip

Happy World Rat Day everyone :D This morning I got the news that Raimy has had 7 healthy babies. Fingers crossed they stay this way. I don't know the sexes yet. And Maze is apparently due tomorrow, not today. I have been on Facebook messenger with the breeders having a hilarious time trying to think...

Re: The Crazy Rat Trip

Update on the Crazy Rat Trip girls and boys: So the beautiful imported rats went to their new homes with the 3 breeders in the north of Sweden at the beginning of October. They have been the most amazing and friendly bunch and are hugely loved by one and all. After a few initial teething problems an...

Here is the carrier method explanation. It would be well worth a try :)

Re: Separated rat as he injured another rat

Hi again Samana, I am a bit confused as to what rats you have and who you are keeping with who and where. Perhaps it would help us all to help you if you write a list of your rats, their names, their ages, where you got them from, how they are related and who is with who in your cages. Also, it migh...

Re: Separated rat as he injured another rat

Hi! You need to keep Colnel and Parsley together in their own cage all the time. Don't keep moving Parsley between Colnel and the big group. That just confuses matters and it's not fair to keep Colnel on his own. Once Colnel has had the op and all the hormones are settled down then, as Mary says, do...

Re: Making things easier for my old boy

Our older rats have always liked a cardboard box that I have taped shut with a rat size hole cut in the side (cereal box or whatever you have. A shoebox would work). Put it in the bottom of the cage with shredded paper, or towelling material etc. It is nice and dark and cosy. The others can then joi...

Re: Probable neurological symptoms in 18 month female

Today we have had to say goodbye to Trixie  . She went downhill fairly rapidly at the end and became weak and floppy and unable to feed herself. The time came when it was clear we had to take her to be pts. Such a sad decision to make even when you know it is for the best. We have now lost 3 be...

Re: Probable neurological symptoms in 18 month female

Thanks Mary! Having talked to the rat sitters again, it seems Trixie was generally ok for the majority of her stay with them. The feeling is that something acute probably happened yesterday before we picked her up. She seems a bit better today. She has willingly come out of the cage this morning and...
