If they're bright red he's silver fawn. Look forward to pictures. :)

Re: RatOutofHell Rescue taking a break

I'm sorry to hear that but glad that you're looking after yourself, that's important. Life likes to get in the way but I hope everything works out in the end.

Re: Where would I go to ask about getting 2 new rats?

I think there is one NFRS registered breeder who claims to be bedding hairless with an aim of making it robust enough to be standardised. I don't know her so can't vouch for her but if that is something you're interested in then perhaps start a dialogue with her. The rattery is maidenhair.

Re: Are most male rats lazy?

The line they are from also makes a huge difference too. While I would say my females stay active for longer I wouldn't say there's a huge difference I their activity levels at peak fitness. On the whole names are larger though, and hence a little less agile, and I think this can often be misinterpr...

Re: Logistics regarding an unexpected new addition

I would give Humphrey enough time to get back to his normal self personally, at least a week. By then he should be well on his way to being healed and he'll be able to cope with the stress of introductions.

Re: Logistics regarding an unexpected new addition

As he's from a known source and someone you can trust then I wouldn't worry about quarantining, plus he's effectively been quarantined anyway - he's been alone for 2 weeks, so if he hasn't shown any signs of illness he's clear. In terms of problems, the stress of moving/losing a sibling/cage mate ca...

Re: Finally!! A decent space for my rats! :)

So I'm pretty much finished now, few odd bits to do but I need to borrow my dad's cordless drill. It's functional and the jobs can wait. Really pleased with it - plenty of space and so much easier to keep clean, plus the rats finally have a decent space to freerange. I was initially going to put up ...

Re: Respiratory infection

I always try at least two different types of AB combos, you never know what you're fighting and different bugs are affected by different ABs. I usually try doxy, baytril and clavamox.

Re: Free range enrichment

I have carpet inner tube! I totally forgot to put that out.

Currently I've got a wicker basket filled with shredded paper, a wooden show rack, a water tray and a foraging tray, a plastic castle, widen house, and a few plastic toys.

Free range enrichment

I'm looking for inspiration - what do you all use for enrichment during free range? Anything particularly excite your rats?

Re: dull coats?

I simplified my mix recently and now feed 6 scoops rabbit mix (like Harrisons), 4 scoops pigeon food (like Versele-Laga Dark Plus or Bucktons Conditioning Mix) plus a half scoop of both a high quality dog kibble and parrot mix. Mine are looking well on it.

Finally!! A decent space for my rats! :)

I've had my rats in a shed for years now and I never got on with it, mainly because it felt cramped and I was always worried about temperature, probably because it was small (10 x 6). I've always wanted them in a garage but we've never had one before but we recently moved to a 2 bed apartment near N...
