Re: Black lump below eye, cyst?

Hi, How is she with eating/gnawing? I've not got an answer, sorry, but a few observations having had a quick look at an anatomy book. The drawings aren't all that clear or well labeled: The location of the black lump in the picture seems to correspond perfectly to the 'hole' in the skull where the m...

Sevoflurane

Hi, Just wanted to share an experience with this anaesthetic. We recently had Willow PTS (just under 33 months with metastasised vaginal wall tumor), and the vet used Sevoflurane. Sevo is the pediatric anesthesia drug. We've had many rats pts at the vets, anesthetised usually with iso, then injected...

Re: Urgent! Help please, oedema.

She does have a chest infection, and eye infection, and tendons were hanging out of the foot. . . Definitely won't be going near Tramadol again though. She's been off it for 24hrs but is still doing the chewing thing annoyingly. They tried sedatives, but didn't work, she just carried on the chewing ...

Re: Urgent! Help please, oedema.

We're attempting salvage. The vet used tramadol in her boys and didn't have a problem, but will be more considered about using it now I'm sure. She spent the day at the vets having massages, cold compresses, cuddles, flushing, cream applied, eye drops for a scratch on her eye etc. And we've come hom...

Re: Urgent! Help please, oedema.

Thank you. Been to vets, xray to check no broken bones. All OK. The vet gave us some tramadol in addition to the metacam. Trouble is now she's chewing it, Or us when we try to stop her. Wonder if she's 'high' / hallucinating . . . any suggestions on stopping the foot access?

Re: Urgent! Help please, oedema.

Thanks we'll give it a try. Its now so bad that its leaking fluid. Think we'll leave her in the carrier and have her with us tonight so we can keep an eye on her and then take her to our vet tomorrow if its not gone down at all. Poor thing is exhausted :(

Urgent! Help please, oedema.

Hi, Ruby got her foot trapped and twisted up in a hammock (the cotton from a chewed bit). Came home and released her, foot was still warm and slightly pink, so some blood must have been getting through. Cut off the offending threads, no sign of bleeding, but now the foot is very very swollen. (think...

Re: Persistent ear infection/head tilt.

Draxin? I think is considered the strongest/most powerful and is injected once a week (but can be more if necessary). We felt it help slightly with Daisy, but unfortunately it didn't cure her.

In other cases though it has seemed to be a miracle drug. It's rather expensive though.

Good Luck

Re: will she be okay?

The experts have spoken :-) Topical application makes sense as the tricky thing with ABs is that they have to get through the wall of the abscess to work, hence the 'co'. If the space where the abscess was isn't left open, it'll just fill up again. Humans get they packed with some special seaweed ba...

Re: Deslorelin implant

The rat is awake when the implant goes in (devastating to hear them scream, but it only takes a split second and then you get to cuddle, kiss and give treats to them until they forgive you) so there aren't the risks associated with surgery. Yes, it costs a bit of money, but surely it is worth it on...
