Re: Trying to make sense of suddend death

If there was a perfect way of explaining how hard making the choice to pts is, that's it right there.

Re: Physical or Mental health issues?

Could the infection or tumour that caused the vaginal bleeding still be there? I've never successfully treated pyo with antibiotics, it always comes back. This was my thought. All the symptoms you've listed could be indicators of ongoing internal pain. Usual treatment of vaginal bleeding is a spay....

Re: Recurring Rat Abscess and Castrating Male Rats

Have you noticed anything wrong with his teeth? Baytril is practically pointless to abscess, I can't remember the meds for them, but I'm sure someone will be along to tell you. what are you flushing it out with anything? Try just a simple saline solution and then purple spray/manuka honey after :) A...

Re: Litter change and hooting

If it's scented then yeah it's more than likely causing the hooting. It should clear up after a week or so of not using it :)

Re: Fleas on our new babies

I wouldn't bathe them unless needed, if they aren't gone with the bath then you'll need to try something else, I'd try a drop on application, never had fleas before so I can't suggest what, but I really would avoid bathing them, to get rid of you need to really really deep clean, hot washes for the ...

Re: Extremely sharp claws

They don't need to be animal ones, just baby nail clippers will do fine, probably a lot cheaper too!

Re: Extremely sharp claws

Nail clippers should do the job, just the tip of them, if you're worried about nicking too much I think it's corn flour that will stop the bleeding :) Oh God. I am such a wuss and they are so riggly I am not sure that I dare. Corn flour may stop the bleeding but it would not stop the pain if I nick...

Re: Scabs on her back

Not what I hoped to hear :( How would there suddenly be mites in the cage? I'm always so careful about cleaning them out regularly, not introducing anything from a suspect source etc. Would there be a reason only one of the three would be suffering? I would have thought mites would spread between t...

Re: Scabs on her back

I would say mites, you can clean everything but they still can get them, they lye dormant and then something like illness or stress makes the numbers rise and you start seeing signs, with the porph too, I would take her to the vets and get her checked over.

Vets needed in wigan.

I don't know roughly where this lady is in Wigan, but two of her rats have recently been bitten by her other girls during intros, one has a swollen foot and the other bone showing on the tail so she needs confidence in someone that they won't just give them a low dose of baytril and send them on the...
