Re: Unsteadiness
She didn't recommend any and he is looking well in himself, no porph, bright eyes etc. I tried to take a video today and he isn't as bad. I think at the moment I will carry on with the preds but any sign of looking poorly I'll put him straight on some antib's. Not sure if I have any baytril but do h...

Re: Unsteadiness
Thanks. My vet checked him over including his ears which were fine so we are just carrying on with the preds and I will keep a close eye on him for now. Really appreciate the advice

Re: Unsteadiness
Both vets should be in tomorrow so should be fine. :) I'm lucky that my closest one has 2 vets that are good with rats and willing to listen to ideas. We always keep on antibs if using for respy problems but it's the first time I've had a rat with neurological issues (excluding one with a brain tumo...

Re: Unsteadiness
Thanks for the reply Beri. He's not on any antibiotics at the moment, was wondering if the start of a ear infection could cause the recent swaying. I've taken him to the vet before but unfortunately my vet wasn't in, she said neurological. I'm probably clutching at straws and he's happy now but don'...

Unsteadiness
Enzo arrived last summer with another boy, age unknown (woman kept changing her mind and they looked a few months old but at one point she said a year). He was unsteady and skinny when he came out of the carrier. He very gradually became more unsteady and has been on preds for a few weeks which seem...

Thanks. We're trying him on seizure meds and will reassess Monday but I think I may have to make the decision soon.

Re: Can utis cause fits
I suspect so too but am clutching at straws as I know utis can cause confusion in elderly people. His brother is going to be gutted if I lose him as he'll be the last one left in that group and when we lost his other brother and another cagemate he barely left his hammock for a week.

Can utis cause fits
I have a elderly boy with the beginning of hld who we are treating for a possible uti. I wash and groom him twice a day as he doesn't do that himself and in the last couple of days he has started having fits. Has anyone seen this before? I hoping its to do with the uti and not something more siniste...

Re: Possible diabetic rat. Need medication/ food advice
Hi. I had a diabetic boy who did very well once I got him on insulin. I heard diabetes was rare in rats but have heard of quite a few cases since so I do wonder if it just wasn't being picked up or the vets didn't know / weren't prepared to treat them. His story is on the Cavy Rescue website if you ...

Re: Fitting and Lethagy in young rat
Thank you. Would epilepsy or tumour leave him running around happily one minute then be so tired you could pick him up and move him without him shifting position the next? Will get the other things checked too, blood tests on Friday.

Fitting and Lethagy in young rat
Hi. I got Albie as a rescue just before christmas when he was around 3 months old so he's 6 or 7 months old now. New Years eve he developed a throat abscess so he had surgery to drain it and clear it out properly so it wouldn't restrict his throat. Everything with that went well. He was difficult to...

Re: rat drinking wee , diabetes?
I found there wasn't much info on it so did a article on my experience with Milo if you would like to read it.

Once it was under control if I saw any of them drinking pee I'd always do a test
