Re: Discussions relating to Hantavirus

I'm glad you all agree. They're not going to change anything I do, not least inhaling the rats and rubbing them on my face!

Re: Discussions relating to Hantavirus

The number of times I've had rat pee in rat scratches over the past 11 years, I think if the rats have it then I've had it. Also, how do you get the piles of bedding out from under the cages without vacuuming or sweeping it? I'm planning to carry on as normal, and am now waiting until the testing i...

Re: Discussions relating to Hantavirus

I've just spoken to Noel. They're not encouraging testing at present until it's anonymous, unless people have specific risk factors/issues, such as pregnancy. They are hoping to get the anonymous testing started soon, and I suggested that it could be done at shows, as they'd get a large group of rat...

Re: Discussions relating to Hantavirus

I've had type 1 for years. I don't plan to do anything differently.

Antibodies from pre-diagnosis will still be present, they don't just vanish. And it's likely he's had diabetes for a lot longer than he's had the diagnosis.

Re: Discussions relating to Hantavirus

Just to add - my concern is not the virus itself but the effect this could have on the fancy when the media get hold of it. Rats have a bad enough name as it is.

Re: Discussions relating to Hantavirus

I feel that this is going to turn out to be endemic. With the way that rats are moved all over the country and brought together at shows, there's no way that it can't be. And if that is the case then it can't be particularly harmful to people in general, unless they have underlying health issues or ...

Which strength? We've been told to use around 0.1-0.2ml a day.

Re: Sore snout?

It looks like an infection of his whisker bed. Could be an abscess under there.

When Rebel had a tooth root abscess her lip went funny too.

Re: cut or zymbal's?

We've dealt with plenty of other things, including very bizarre/rare things that have been deeply upsetting. I'm sure our time will come for a ZGT too.
