Put your aloe gel in the fridge for a few hours and then apply, the cold makes stuff shrink...

Re: Urgent! Help please, oedema.

I can't help but think that your vet is taking you for a ride somewhat. No half decent rat vet would use tramadol on a rat, nor would they prescribe all that crap you have just listed, they would have gone with common sense and given a cone, some Diazepam, basic antibiotics and told you to leave it ...

Re: Urgent! Help please, oedema.

Rats and opiates aren't a very good mix when it comes to injuries, as often they get obsessively chewy. Try making her a collar until the tramadol wears off?

Re: Really upset with FR

. Sorry.....but if you make it request only, how are people who want to come asking questions in that section, ever going to know about it? You could still have the heading with a message to PM mods to be allowed access, it's no biggie. At least then nobody would accidentally click on it (say a chil...

Re: Really upset with FR

I don't want to get into an arguement, but in the wild the snake's prey have a chance to escape. In fact most of the prey are probably older which is why they are easier to catch. These rats have no chance and die very young. It is horribly sad. Life is sad, let's bury our head in the sand and pret...

Sorry.....but if you make it request only, how are people who want to come asking questions in that section, ever going to know about it? Would you prefer they received POOP advice on a reptile forum...which advises the POOPEST conditions and terrible husbandry, or let them come here and well, maybe...

Re: Leptospirosis questions

Well, if she does have Leptospirosis, it would be very easy indeed to spread it around if rats ever needing ratsitting or at shows, being visited by other rat owners and whatnot, and with Hantavirus already abound, I don't think the rat fancy really needs any more bad media coverage or any more noti...

Re: Leptospirosis questions

I gathered the vet wasn't rat-savvy, due to not wanting to give rats anything penicillin based, or using doxy on young rats

Re: Leptospirosis questions

I do 3 weeks in a separate airspace, but there are no real guidelines for stuff like this to be honest.

Re: Leptospirosis questions

Nobody else ever bothers to test for lepto on other stray rats, even on bigger rescues such as the 'Park rats' etc, and that was deemed okay, so just treat for lepto as a precaution. Me personally? I treat for: Internal parasites Panacur aka Fenbendazole dosed at 0.1ml per 100g of bodyweight, just o...

Re: Ripped open incision from removed abscess (GRAPHIC PHOTO

Amzy's now making me question whether Flagyl can be given topically rather than just orally... I'm sure I've used it that way before, but now I'm doubting my memory :? The other two can be anyway. I'd discuss dosing (amounts and methods) and such with your vet though. One of the main side effects f...

Re: SDA Virus

Umm...four months isn't correct, if you have quarantined for 6 weeks since the start of symptoms, then you should be fine.

Re: Mites and Microscopes

All rats have mites anyway, they are endemic.
