Lump in throat

It’s been a while since I have had a rat with a lump. Yondu has a lump on his throat. It is hard, round and solid but doesn’t feel attached. I would have been inclined to think it is a fatty lump but it is harder than those. It’s about the size of small grape.

Any ideas?

Re: Exercising rats

Definitely at the same time. The best way is the block off a hallway or the bathroom, provided there are no holes or wires. Put some things in there for them to play with, like wooden wine racks, old towels to hide under, carpet tubes to climb through, and the best thing is a dog bed pillow thing fo...

Re: Substitute for wire ladders in cage

Some people cover them with socks. However, I would only use ladders for oldies who struggled to get around to get to the upper shelves. For youngsters I would take out the ladders and shelves altogether. I know it seems that you have paid for them so use them, but rats need to build up their muscle...

Change in dynamics in the griup

I lost one of my boys at the weekend but now the dynamics have changed. I have 3 neutered and 3 intact boys. The 2 youngest, Rocket and Groot, are 8 months old and have been particularly naughty once they got big enough. They have mounted one of my neutered bucks for a while and whilst it hasn’t bee...

Re: Breeders in Kent

I would make the initial contact sooner rather than later. There is no guarantee when there will be litters available so best to find out. Good luck.

Re: How do I wash fleece?

I was my hammocks, made from fleece, in the washing machine. I use a normal biological detergent but use a hot wash. I also use a horse wash bag to wash my fleeces as it keeps all the muck in the bag and not the machine, like this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Horsewear-Laundry-Washing-Numnahs-Boots/...

Re: Is this food good?

I would rather use the nature rat and forget the nuggets. If you scatter feed the nature rat to encourage them in natural behaviour and also feed them some fresh food. As they are young also give them some protein, like cooked chicken or eggs.

Re: Hey, guys! I need to know if this litter is safe

Hi and welcome to the forum. I haven’t heard of that one. I would use it rather than through it away. If there are any issues, then through it away. Thanks! :) Yeah, cause wood isn't bad, right? As long as it isn't cedar or pine. And the fact that it is pellet form makes it a lot better in terms of...

Good outcome. You will get to know your rats and when something is wrong and when something is really wrong. He’ll soon be running around.

Re: What to do for the best

You could try that for a day but certainly try again with the bag. Perhaps in an enclosed space where they can’t escape or get into trouble. I always have a tube available (piece of carpet tube is good), so if they escape you can put the tube near them, when they are in it, hands over each end and b...

Re: What to do for the best

Don’t feel like a failure. It’s happened to me too. The said rat is now happy to be picked up, run around and climb on me. It is a patient game, don’t give up. Perhaps if your bathroom is a secure place, with no holes that they can get into sit in the bathroom with them, or put them in the bath with...

Re: Rat's swolllen front paws!

Hi and welcome. Is it possible that he has caught his paws in anything, perhaps in a ladder, or a door, or a wire floor? That is the only thing I can think of with it being both paws. If that is the case a bit of pain killer, such as dog metacam (1 drop) or children’s ibuprofen (sorry, can’t remembe...
