Poor Kyle. It could possibly be heart issues. Are there any other symptoms? Does he lie hanging off a hammock? How is his breathing? Is he still lethargic?
It is difficult to test for heart problems and putting out for X-rays could potentially cause problems.
Hope there are improvements soon.

Can you block off a hall or the bathroom, just need to make sure there is nothing chewable or holes they can get stuck in.

Re: Hungry boys
Will try that. I go through phases of scatter feeding but find that I don’t know if they have anything left. Will see how it goes.

Hungry boys
My group of boys are sooo hungry. I feed them 15g each of dry mix a day, in 2 feeds and fresh food on top of that. Within an hour their bowls are empty, so I usually give them another small handful of dry mix at bed time. There is only 1 chunky lad so I am thinking that what they are getting is okay.

Re: Which sex to choose
Everybody has their own opinions on this. Having had both I always preferred males but I may be changing my mind with this group I have, it has taken them ages to settle. On the health side females tend to have more mammary tumours, which can be removed but you have to consider the cost and recovery...

Re: Is this cage big enough as temporary accommodation
I think that will be ok. I have kept 4 rats in a mamble, which is 100x54x64. Just a thought, if you are getting a pair of rats, adding another to the group is a good idea, although you will have three rats the same age, as they get older it will save you being in a ‘lone rat’ situation and three rat...

Re: Introducing new rats to resident cats?
I have a group of rats and have had various groups for 6 years, I also have a cat. I do not let the rats out in the same place as the cat. I know people say that cats make rats nervous as they are natural prey for them, but I can say I have seen no evidence. However, it doesn’t mean to say that ther...

Re: Cut on leg
I think I am going to separate for the holiday. I don’t think Odin will be with us much longer but he is hanging in there. He has lost a lot of weight despite eating very well and always being first to the bowl even through the rush. I will just have to start with intros again when I get home. :roll...

I use cardboard squares, or finacard as the substrate in the cage and breeder celect cat litter for the toilet. You can use shavings such as bedmax or aubiose but I’m not keen on it, although as I have a bale I mix it 50/50 with cardboard bedding.

Cut on leg
Come home today to find star-lord pounding on Odin. Odin is an old boy with hld. I stopped it happening immediately but Odin has a cut on his leg, I think it has happened sort of accidentally. The cut isn’t deep, just the top layer of skin but it is staying open. Does this warrant a vet visit? I don...

Neb is still terrorising the group. It's not always the youngster he is after, there is my boy old boy who has hld. I've never had such a troublesome lot. I would appreciate any advice.
