Re: Ideas to fill up my new cage to spoil my new rats? :)
There are some brilliant ideas in these sections... http://www.fancyratsforum.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=49 http://www.fancyratsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=110&t=65 Most of which I have had a go at making for my lot. Just one thing you may wish to change once the ratties are use to their cage. Change fro...

Re: What kind of coat does my rat have?
I am not sure if their is a coat type for "soft fur" but one of our bucks Taz has, what I call, girly fur as his is very soft and silky.

Re: Should I clean out the cage??
Thank you as ever for the advice. I will do a full cage clean in the morning. I think some toilet roll pinata etc might be in order.

Should I clean out the cage??
It is not due a clean yet, but as Mario passed away last night the other 3 seem awfully quiet. Luigi is constantly looking in the box where Mario slept and digging about in the substrate as if he is looking for him. Should I clean out the cage today to remove Mario's scent? would it help?

Re: could any of these ingredients be harmful to rats?
Thank you so much for all that Beri. I will get a urine test done just in case. We have not tried metacam , I was worried about starting it too early, as you say dosing would end up getting higher as time went on. He is booked in for a check with the vet on Tuesday but I do have a test kit so if any...

Re: could any of these ingredients be harmful to rats?
Hi Beri, I just copied exactly what is on the bottle. We use this for our dog and Mario one of our rats has developed HLD and I just wondered if the ingredients were ok, would it be worth trying a couple of drops (will have to calculate the exact amount of course). It worked so well for the dog and ...

Thank you
Youngsters would be a problem. My son has decided he does not want any more ratties, so we have 4 elderly bucks all 30 months old.

Managing HLD tips/advice
Mario our 30 month old entire buck is loosing muscle tone on his back end :(. I have already re-arranged the cage layout for our Loki (also 30 months). Mario is starting to "shuffle" rather than walk about the cage and it all seems rather gradual. I am going to ring the vet Monday to get him checked...

Re: Do rats understand negative re-enforcement?
OK I have never done this with rats, but it worked with ferrets. My problem was the ferrets digging at the carpet. Each time I picked on up and told them no, the second they went back down they were at the same spot digging. I was told that the contact was considered a reward, basically being picked...

So sorry for your loss. As said nothing is your fault and you may never know the reason why. Just remember Puzzle was well cared for and loved completely by you and Pocket. xx
