Re: Any success of treating pneumonia?

Thank you. Aside from his breathing he is acting his normal self otherwise, keen for food and not lethargic at all so I hoping we can get on top of his breathing symptoms. I rang the vets as he was only given a 10 day course of ronaxan which would run out on Saturday, I've asked for a longer course ...

Re: Any success of treating pneumonia?

Thank you, he has bisolvon once a day. He isn't stressed (and therefore doesn't gasp) while he's with us in the bathroom so we're steaming that while he's in there. He wasn't gasping for the first few days while he was having his meds in baby food, but then I changed to the choco weight up mix from ...

Re: Any success of treating pneumonia?

Thank you for your reply. He has occasionally had gasping episodes while eating his normal rat rations mix, but not as severe as when he's having his meds and he doesn't climb to the top of the cage in panic. He is very keen for his meds (well the baby food or weight up mix they're in!) and I give t...

Any success of treating pneumonia?

Negan will be 2 beginning of Jan. I posted 3-4 weeks ago as he had a bad choking episode resulting in an OOH vet trip, oxygen, metacam inj & 7 day course of baytril to cover him once the food had been manually dislodged. He was doing fine except early in the week I saw his sides heaving deeply when ...

Re: Choking followed by noisy breathing

Thank you :) I've not taken him to the vets this morning (open surgery) as he is well in himself, and breathing only sounds louder when your ear is near his nose. But if this continues would you still take him and get more abx? I always worry about leaving things and then getting worse but he's not ...

Choking followed by noisy breathing

Last week on Wednesday night one of our rats (Negan) had a choking episode resulting in an out of hours vet trip. He had just been fed his usual mix from rat rations and my partner brought him through saying somethings wrong, he had his mouth wide open, tongue pushed forward and his arching his back...

Is this feeding plan ok?

This is what I plan to feed my two boys until they're around 4 months old, after this will reduce the protein but veg will stay the same. I will be introducing veg/new foods slowly so they won't be getting 3 portions of veg so often right away. They will get 15g of rat rations no 7 mix each morning ...

Forum sections missing?

Hi, I've been away for quite a while but come back to the forum as I'm soon to welcome two new boys. Im struggling to find some sections of the forum I'm sure used to exist! Such as showing and pictures, is this because I've not posted in a while you have to be a posting member to see them? or has t...

Re: Which No7 mix and supplement help?

Thank you for your reply :) Ah thank you, I wasn't aware about that with soya. I saw it said to use the egg biscuit mix for those that don't like feeding soya and wondering if it was to do with health/nutrition reasons for the actual rats themselves. Ok, I'll give them different veggies 3 times a we...

Which No7 mix and supplement help?

I've not posted in quite a while, I have been without ratties for quite a while but am very excited to be welcoming two new boys from a breeder early March. Having a look back into the ratty world and diet advice seems to have changed slightly alongside recommended cages etc so just getting back up ...

Re: Sulfatrim and baytril?

I would start the Sulfatrim tonight in combination with the baytril, and then phone the vets again in the morning. They're safe to be given as a combo, so if that's what the vet did mean then you're sorted. But also if the vet meant you to swap then doing a slight overlap rather than ending one cou...

Sulfatrim and baytril?

I have a rat who has been prescribed sulfatrim (trimethroprim and sulfamethoxazole) after baytril wan't having an effect, the vet didn't make it clear whether I am to stop the baytril or give it alongside the sulfatrim, ie at opposite ends of the day. Are they safe to be combined or shall I just giv...

Re: Leaving rats alone?

Thank you for that suggestion, I will do that :) Although it may be difficult as I don't drive and couldn't carry a cage on the bus so transport anywhere is difficult.

Re: Leaving rats alone?

Thank you for all the replies. They have two large water bottles which going by what they would normally drink but I'm going to add another one anyway. Unfortunely I live in student flats and don't really know anyone, all we get is people around us banging on the walls as downstairs are very loud/li...

Leaving rats alone?

Hi, I feel rather guilty about posting this and possibly leaving the ratties alone but it's my only option if I want to visit home over christmas and not be on my own. I was maybe thinking of getting the train home late christmas eve and have the opportunity for a lift back for lunch time boxing day...
