Holiday Cage

What would you say the smallest cage I could get away with would be for 10 male rats for 16 days at a pet hotel?

Thanks

Copy of X-ray?

Ruben may have to have a chest X-ray if the next round of Anti-biotics doesnt clear his chest up (wheezing for over 6 weeks but completely fine in himself). If he does have to are they usually anaesthetised? sedated? awake? (although i doubt he will sit still long enough for that!) Do i get a copy o...

Re: Euthanasia Methods

After spending night over thinking the whole situation, I think its possibly for the Vet who performed the euthanasia that i wasnt comfortable with rather than the method used itself. - She never asked how he was or why he was being PTS now, she just said that she had seen his notes and confirmed I ...

Re: Euthanasia Methods

I dont think it helped that when I said i wanted be with him for the final injection she said " you can but its not very nice", shes not a vet ive seen before but usually they tell you its peaceful and that they wont feel anything :L I think my worry with the heart injection is, if the anaesthetic d...

Euthanasia Methods (ETA at the vets)

Just wondering what people experiences are with methods of euthanasia? I thought there was a thread but i cant seem to find one. Ive had 2 rats put to sleep and theyve both been done by different vets and different methods 1. Fudge was anaesthetised then injected with bright blue stuff into his abdo...

Re: Experience with testicular tumors

Thankyou for replaying :) I dont think it was a Hernia, I ended up emailing the vet and he said that the tumor did look painful and that it was likely already impacting his quality of life, that help me feel that regardless of the outcome surgery was in his best interests :) She also said that if it...

Experience with testicular tumors

On sunday the 13 Novemeber i noticed by 20-24ish month old boy Pumpkin had a enlarged testicle, im not sure how long he had had it but for me to not notice it it must of got pretty big pretty quickly. We went for a consultation on the Tuesday and surgery was arranged for yesterday (the earliest day i...

Re: Steroids for respiratory problems

Personally I'd go to a different vet. 1 week of baytril isn't enough, the dose I can't be sure of without knowing the strength of the solution. Antibiotic resistance in rats isn't something I would be particularly worried about, they have such short little lives anyway that they generally aren't on ...

Re: Steroids for respiratory problems

Have you tried other meds like Doxycillin or Zithromax? Also its not clear from your post but how long was he on the Baytril for a what dose? For Myco flare ups meds should be given for about 4 weeks and frequently Baytril needs combining with doxycillin if the Baytril alone isnt curing it. I dont h...

Re: Diabetes

Remmy passed away a little while ago :( He was fine yesterday morning (apart from the breathing) but when i got home yesterday he was very lethargic, puffed up, not eating, eating new paper, and generally very unwell in himself So i kept him in a carrier over night so i could monitor his food and wa...

Diabetes

The vet suggested today that there is a possibility that Remmy may have diabetes, its unlikely as he doesnt seem to be drinking/weeing more than usual but he does have:- - Cataracts (one eye is trauma induced, the other is, i assume, genetic and a few of the litter mates have them) - Heart murmur/ p...

Re: Baytril Burn and Frusol Dose

If its the same class of drug does that mean that it should be effective against myco too? Theres a few bits on google about it but nothing seems to be rat specific and marbofloxacin in general doesnt seem to be a drug that is commonly used in rats. When she gave it me she said she was going to give...

Re: Baytril Burn and Frusol Dose

After 3 days on frusol there was no improvement, so sunday night i started him on Xden (Baytril) and within 48 hours his breathing was soooo much better and he was wandering around instead of just sitting there breathing. We went see my usual vet in Thursday, she listened to his chest but it was too...

Baytril Burn and Frusol Dose

I took Remmy to a new exotics vet yesterday, as my usual exotic vet isnt available until wednesday, with really bad breathing and theres a history of CHF/COPD in his litter mates with many already passing away (hes only 16 months). 2 Hours of oxygen later (to get his chest quiet enough to hear his h...
