Breeder rat vs Pet shop rat

Wasn't sure where to post this, felt physique was the best fit to the question

Do you think it is possible to tell a breeder rat from a pet shop rat? Say you took on a pair of rats from somewhere with little info, do you think its possible to guesstimate their origin?

Re: Slight throat swelling and small lump in throat

A lot of my rats have recently come up with neck / throat abscesses.. Keep a close eye on cage mates as for some reason it spread amongst my group. It was a struggle keeping on top of them with just meds so resorted to lancing them as soon as they displayed. Did the trick! I have had this problem t...

Re: Tesco mixer

They weigh a bloody ton. Nothing like denes. Jaime, Lottie got me my sack (although i've since got my own from argo), she won't do small bags of barley rings, because there aren't enough people wanting them, but she does do small bags of denes mixer. ahh theres no way its worth me buying 15kg just ...

Re: Tesco mixer

I'm going to try this, going to try picking a bag up tomorrow. the vitamin D in it appeals too as banana brunch doesnt have it added. they get oily fish at least once a week but would like more in their diet

Re: Contagious throat abscesses?

Have you had a swab of the abscesses sent off for lab diagnosis (untidily written...I'm tired!) to make sure that the ABs you're being given are the best ones to hit the bacteria. I'm pretty sure someone else on here had recurrent abscesses, outside of the London Agoutis I haven't though I think if...

Re: Contagious throat abscesses?

Also want to add though it won't let me edit, After all the girls have gone who have been on the contagious group, I am planning on throwing away the hammocks and ropes from the cage, possibly the sputnik too. However I really want to if possible keep the silent spinner and the explorer. or would it...

Re: Contagious throat abscesses?

The London agouti rescue are the rats most famous for having infectious abscesses - although in that situation it tended to be through direct contact, so rats in the same cage group were most at risk, with others in the same room but different cages less so. Also immunity probably plays a part as A...
