Re: Flora might lose an eye :(

Thanks guys, she is fine so far. I know she'll manage fine if she loses it, it is more the thought of it bursting

Re: Advice for pre-spay support

Have you got a second choice vet who might be able to operate tomorrow? Otherwise you might end up having to have an emergency spay over the weekend with whoever is on call.

Flora might lose an eye :(

I got up this morning to find that one of Flora's eyes had turned red and angry. It was obviously bleeding inside, but I didn't think it was actually too bad as the eye wasn't swollen. Fortunately my fantastic vets let me go down this morning and squeeze in between appointments. I am so glad they di...

Re: rat baths

Rats should be able to keep themselves clean, are yours getting dirty somehow that you think they need a bath? I never bother doing anything with mine!

Re: Precautions to take with an ill rat?

Just want to point out that your other thread here includes further symptoms than just "lethargic", in case people haven't seen that one. I'm not an expert, but the other thread indicates to me that it is something neurological as that sounds like absence seizures. Hopefully someone will have some m...

Re: Eye infection

She forgives me very quickly, it's just at the point I'm trying to put the stuff in her eye - it's "oh NO, not this again  " I've been to the vets this morning, and Judith says it doesn't look like an eye infection, it looks more like something stress related or some environmental irritant. We...

Re: Eye infection

Just to add also, that Fucithalmic usually takes a few days to start working, so the improvement you're seeing is abnormally slow or anything :luck: Ah, didn't realise that! Not that I expected a magical fix straight away! Flora's eye looked quite nasty for a couple of days, and I thought some of t...

Re: Eye infection

Thanks - yes it does seem to be helping, it looks OK when I've checked her when I got home from work today as well. I wasn't sure if this morning had just been a blip because I've been putting the fucithalmic in it for a few days and it hadn't seemed to be helping. I'll just take her to the vets to ...

Eye infection

Flora has an eye infection - one eye in particular is very watery and porphy. The other eye doesn't seem quite right either. I've been putting fucithalmic cream in it for a few days now, and it seems slightly better this morning. My question is that I've got a vets appointment tomorrow morning, so i...

Re: Baytril dosage

Thanks, it does sound like there is fairly wide range in use! I've been giving her just over 0.1ml twice a day, which should be fine.

Baytril dosage

Flora has been given Baytril for an upper respiratory infection, and I wanted to see what people thought of the dose because it seems quite high to me. The vet weighed her at 260g and has prescribed her 0.3ml of baytril per day. If my maths is correct, following the "moderate" dosage level of 15mg/k...

Re: Not wanting to start a argument. ETA re replies to threa

Another random suggestion. I know for instance the post redrach mentioned where she felt there weren't enough replies. I remember reading it and thinking that's been answered well she doesn't need more so didn't post. Then when I popped on today I saw there were still problems so posted some more i...

Re: How long between steroids and Metacam?

I think Metacam is a NSAID (non steroidal anti-inflammatory), and NSAIDs are not supposed to be combined with steroids. Can't offer any more specific advice though, sorry!
