Re: Very tiny rats - anything to worry about?
They're very small girls in general, small noses, paws, tails and toeses! They look in proportion (they don't look starved or anything). I think I just managed to get teensy girls! They look (and act) a bit like kittens who never really grew up.

Very tiny rats - anything to worry about?
Hello, so today I had to weigh one of my girls (Indie) to work out a dosage, it was NOT easy weighing her and I have the claw marks to prove it, she weighed in at a pathetic 230g, out of interest I weighed my other girl (her sister) Cate as she's considerably smaller. She weighs in at a teeny tiny 1...

Re: Open wound
Eating in this thing is a nightmare! I'm having to 100% handfeed her (scrambled egg, yoghurt, ratty chocolate drops (anything that doesn't involve too much chewing)) because she can't feed herself in it, and it's a bother as she tends to get annoyed with being handfed and stalk off in a sulk, I'll b...

Re: Open wound
The op was not a problem, she came round well helped herself to food then went and did herself a mischief! Naughty girl. If the collar doesn't work they're tubigripping her... lampshade rat will become sausage rat!Round_table_knights wrote:Aw Stardust!! Bless her!![]()

Re: Open wound
I am sorry - it is wrong to mock the afflicted, but she does look funny  Dear little soul :hearts: If she fancies coming round here and helping to scoop substrate when I clean my lot out, I will pay generously in yoggies! It's very very wrong and naughty and bad *giggles* she's hilarious though

She's poorly and it's really not funny... but... http://i48.tinypic.com/24wu815.jpg http://i46.tinypic.com/35l5iti.jpg http://i50.tinypic.com/15dbcwm.jpg On the plus side she's functioning fine, able to use the water bottle and potter around the floor of the cage On the downside she keeps turning it...

Re: Open wound
She's kept the collar on and left her wound alone so I can pick her up at 2pm (uh, weather permitting!) the nurse said she looks 'hilarious' and 'cute' apparently, so pictures of lampshade-rat likely to follow!

Re: Open wound
Apparently she HAS kept her Buster-Collar on all night (rare for ratties!) She's able to get about and go to the toilet, but she needs to be hand-fed while it's on

Re: Open wound
This looks like a successful one: http://www.fancyratsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=17566 I also made this thread recently: http://www.fancyratsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=18124 I think you'd have to gamble a bit with whether that would make her fret more. Hopefully if she's in under observ...

Open wound
Stardust had a lumpectomy/spay today. The vet told me she'd been worrying at her lumpectomy wound and had opened it a bit already, having to have the end reglued, but she seemed bright and alert. Got her home she was bouncy and bright, I stayed with her for an hour and a bit keeping a good eye on he...

Re: Pituitary tumor?
My mum says she personally would keep her going the few extra weeks/months the medication will give her, but I've just had to hand feed her some chicken she was having difficulty managing on her own and I swear my heart broke in two. I can't believe I didn't notice she wasn't using her hands properl...

Re: Pituitary tumor?
You know your girl best, and when she's had enough. ^ This. Exactly this. I honestly think a PT may have been what killed my first rat (back when I was young and stupid and didn't know anything about rat keeping. I attributed the clumsiness and lack of cleanliness to old age, we didn't realize ther...

Pituitary tumor?
Hi, I am in absolute floods of tears because I am convinced Lucy has a PT. Backstory first: Lucy is 18 (nearly 19) months old. In mid January I found a lump on her, took her to the vets for biopsies and tests and stuff, a mammary tumor so we had it removed - I wanted to have her spayed at the same t...

Re: Lucy's having her operation today. I'm nervous...
You've all got me really worried now that I'm overdosing her... *panicking a bit*
Just double checked the syringe, as suspected you guys were right and I'm an idiot she's on 0.17 not 1.7. I'm an idiot.

No idea what strength it is, she definitely said 1.7ml and showed me where on the syringe though This evening Lucy managed to get up into the low-hanging hammock all on her own :) Obligatory 'mummy is taking photographs, I'm going to pull my silliest face' photograph: http://sphotos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/h...
