Re: poss stroke - advice please?
Unfortunately there's not a lot you can do, especially if its happened a while ago. Calpol should be fine, just don't give anything that'll encourage bleeding. He should be ok if not already dead, but you need to consider QOL issues. One of ours had a stroke, uneven pupils etc but was fine the next ...

Re: Abnormal Pupil
I'm impressed with the vet (especially as she didn't say 'if it doesn't improve we'll have to remove the eye) In humans if less than say 55 and healty we'd rush them for an emergancy MRI thinking tumor. If over 60 and diabetic we'd think ischemic and would be so worried as it isn't that life treaten...

Re: Abnormal Pupil
Brief reply. What exactly doesn't the pupil do? Is eyelid droopy? Which way is the bad eye pointing?

Lens, I think. Sorry I'm a bit slow, thought it was the same thing :) And no, I don't think she checked eye pressure :? Here's some piccies (it's his right eye): http://sphotos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/72287_10152460289455019_964349772_n.jpg This shows what I mean about the front area not loo...

Re: Transparent Eye?!
His eyes are large and bright, no droopiness. Ok, after looking at it again, and comparing it with some images online of rats eyes, it looks as though his lens has actually been pushed back into his eye. See this diagram: http://www.ratbehavior.org/images/RatEyeAnnotated.jpg That's normal - the rat...

Re: Transparent Eye?!
So the pupil looks like it is against the top of head, as if she's looking at the cieling?! Does the eye lid appear to be droopy at all? How old is she? Does the pupil change size when you shine a light at it?Ermine wrote:Ok, I HOPE this makes sense:

Re: Transparent Eye?!
We managed to get some pictures of it today! I get what everyone is saying, and on face value it probably sounds to you that his eye is normal ... but it's definitely not. It's definitely not at all like his other eye, or the eyes of his cage mates. My friend had a look today and she thinks it look...

Re: Transparent Eye?!
Just caught this whilst packing up to go home. A few points for you to comment on: 1: You're not meant to be able to see though the eye (even when its clear) which is normal. The only way you should be able to do this is if the light source is coming from very close to your eye - or you're using an ...

We got referred to this vet after our's was clueless, and dhaven't stopped going since. Erm, not really on the fluctuation, thats normal for any eyes, 'diurnal variations' and happens through the day.

Re: Bulging eye.
Quick phone reply. Glaucoma pressures fluctuate during the day. Eye specialist may be able to measure pressures with tonopen, which would bee thee diagnostic bit. Our vet appointments are that much as standard lol

Re: Bulging eye.
Pilocarpine? It does say that on RMG, however, seems a bit of a strange thing, and in some cases dangerous depending on the cause of glaucoma. Pilocarpine is a mitotic - it constricts the pupil - in certain cases of glaucome (angle closure glaucoma) it can help the fluid flow out (of the trabecular ...

Re: Bulging eye.
Shouldn't go white if its glaucoma unless its really late stage. (The white is the fluid pushing into the cornea.) Enucleation is a bit drastic though, I'd give medication a go to reduce the pressure (if it is the eye thats swelling rather than behind it) such as timilol. It is possible to test a r...

Re: Put her down? ETA Teeth issues
I would avoid clipping as it could shatter the teeth and cause many more issues, or so says our vet, who's had many referrals from other vets who have messed up clipping. . . .
