Re: Bulging eye.

Shouldn't go white if its glaucoma unless its really late stage. (The white is the fluid pushing into the cornea.) Enucleation is a bit drastic though, I'd give medication a go to reduce the pressure (if it is the eye thats swelling rather than behind it) such as timilol. It is possible to test a ra...

Re: Respy rats - question

Steam can be useful if they're really struggeling with breathing but stay away from aromatic oils, vics etc as it will actually make it worse for them.

Re: Help URGENT - eta wounds and blood-loss

He may have gotten snagged on the cage, toys, bones, check for sharp edges if any? As for the healing, yes rats do heal quickly but it depends on the type of wound, If its open and in such a way the damaged surfaces can't meet to heal back together, such as being pulled apart by any movement, then I...

Re: EMERGENCY! Two ratties eyes swelling out of socket!

Good luck with the recovary.

Metacam for the eyes :?? For any eye buldging increased pressure etc i'd go for something to bring the pressure down, such as Timilol . . . . we have some in, just in case. It is for glaucoma, but in acute cases it could help bring the pressure down.

Re: Piloerecction - no other symptoms

ta . . . I know, but "HLD'y" was all i could think of, to describe the strange leg movement. . . . We've checked her over and she doesn't seem tender anywhere (back and womb included) . . . and she bites if provoked (hand stuck into hammock), so I'm guessing its not sore. Going to go to vets tomorro...

Piloerecction - no other symptoms

Hmm. Any ideas why a rat would appear 'all puffed up'? She's eating and drinking, pottering around the living room happily. No porph, breathing fine, no discharge from her bits. Only thing is she give the very very slightest hint of being slightly HLD'y, but at 8 months . . . .

Re: Eye problem

:( I've not noticed this before in PT but the eye is fairly closely related to the brain. The vets can check for any trauma that may have introduced infection (via a flourescent (sp) dye) and treat accordingly possibly with antibiotic drops but i'm not convinced its that. They could look into the ey...

Re: Red discharge from eye

Apparently called Chromodacryorrhea, a hypersecretion of the Hadrian gland caused by stress or illness. As said, it's probably down to stress. Leave them to clean it, rats love cleaning!

Re: Eye problem

Poor girl. Do you have any kind of 'dry' eye drops in the house - pop some of those on. The eye looks quite dry so try to avoid touching it - it'll hurt. Can she shut the eye? If not it being open may cause even more damage. Best bet is to try and keep the air quite humid and avoid any kind of draug...

Re: Eye problem

Oh dear. Poor ratty. I hope the infection clears up and avoids the need for surgery. I'm impressed the vet got a good look at the fundus. Did they put cycloplegics in? I've only ever managed to get a reflex. But then I don't deal with ray eyes. . .

Re: Eye problem

I was thinking the 'oedema' was due to the trauma that may have caused the bleed. The bleed seems fairly distinct from the picture, bordered by the limbus. I was half asleep too, recognised your name but southport your profession lol. Should have said if fluoroscein is taken up, much greater risk if...
