Re: Recurrent abscesses

Have you tried putting something like Antirobe directly into the abscesses?

Hopefully someone who has also experienced out breaks like this will be along soon :luck:

Re: Possible seizure? Whole rat group acting funny? HELP!

I'm not sure, but last night sounds almost like when they hurt their tails and run about insanely and sometimes even backwards.

I hope the vet can help you figure out what's going on. Daddy doesn't sound happy, the poor thing.

Re: Mix and Match towers

This tower cage is made from a Freddy and a Jenny which had been cut down to a little bit bigger than a Mary. Am on the look out for a full sized Jenny to add to it now, as I really don't want to have to take my double SRS apart! Currently housing 16 fast growing baby boys. Whole thing: http://i457....

Re: New boys just arrived but one is really struggling to br

Did you manage to catch the vet before they closed? Just wanted to add - a few years back I got a couple of 'free to a good home' boys from my local paper. They were younger than yours, but I remember thinking they'd be lucky to survive the first night. They were so skinny and every breath looked su...

I'd try something else, maybe doxy, with metacam and bisolvon. :luck:

Re: My poor lucy - ulcerated external tumor

Sorry she now has another lump :( . Do you think she's not eating during the day at all, or is it just her meds she won't take? Has it been very hot in the rat room recently? How does she look, do you think she is fluffed up and uncomfortable? Have you been able to syringe feed her meds? If she migh...

Re: Weird skin thing

I haven't but I seem to remember reading about a cream someone found worked really well on some sore skin their rat had. Sorry I can't be anymore helpful!

Hope your Ozzy feels more comfortable soon :luck:

Re: Swollen nipple

Thank you :) . You'd have thought the vet should have explained some of that to me. I did make it clear I wasn't a breeder.

...don't like him already...

Re: Swollen nipple

Thanks Beri, she's been down to the vet this morning, and apparently there's nothing to worry about. I say apparently purely because I unexpectedly saw a new untried vet. He seemed convinced it wasn't mastitis or any kind of infection, and that maybe the babies were just being a bit too rough with h...

Swollen nipple

I noticed one of the mummy rats has a few sore looking nipples - one of which is a little swollen. I was wracking my brains over what powder/spray/cream would be safe to put on it, keeping in mind the babies are still suckling, in the end I settled for manuka honey. Her babies are over 3 weeks old n...

Re: Death post-castration *may be upsetting/graphic*

I'm so sorry :(

I haven't had the exact same thing happen, but I had a doe that seemed to have been recovering well from a lump removal, then she died in her sleep a few days after the op.

Re: My poor lucy - ulcerated external tumor

I've never seen anything like that, it's not a typical looking ulcerated tumor, as it looks so small - far as I know ulceration tends to happen when they get very large. Hopefully someone will be along that recognises a lump like that. Hope poor Lucy's feeling better soon, and that the vet can fix h...
