Fatty ratty!!

Post by Snezzer1 » Tue Mar 22, 2016 10:50 pm

Need tips on how to reduce weight in my sammie she's getting a little tubby!!

On a low sugar shunumite diet 18 g of mix per day. Should I separate at feeding time? The others are about the right weight.

Thanks :)

If you don't already scatter feed, then it will definitely be a help.

Can you tell if she is eating more than the others (eating for longer), or just needs less?

If she's eating more, then you could reduce the overall amount as the others will still get what they need but there will be fewer leftovers for her. If she just needs less, then taking her out for an exercise session while the others tuck in would be a good idea - you could also try filling her up with 'empty calories' after the session before she returns to the cage.

I echo the tips Mary suggested. I would also suggest perhaps you're feeding a bit too much. I only feed 10-12g of food per rat per day so 18g seems a little high. The highest I have ever gone is 15g.
