ZGT?

Post by Birds_Will_Fly » Fri Apr 15, 2016 4:08 pm

I noticed very smelly discharge coming from my rats left ear a few days ago and just below he has a small hard lump. I've started him on baytril but I have a very horrible feeling it's a ZGT? I've only just lost one boy to ZGT less than a month ago. Surely they aren't that common? In my 7 years of rat keeping I have never come across one with my own rats and now 2 in one go?!

I'm sorry to say it does look very much like one. :(

Are they related?

Completely unrelated. This boy is barely two years bless him. My last boy went from diagnosis to PTS in less than one month :(

We lost a boy to a ZGT about 2 months ago, and another of ours recently had a stinky facial lump in that region come up too! In his case, it seems to "only" be a regular tumour instead of a ZGT, but it's grown so quickly that the outcome's much the same, he's getting a weekend of fuss and then going to sleep on Tuesday :(
