Hey,

Silly question but do these medicines need to administered hours apart or can I give both one after the other?

Finally seem to have found a decent vet who didnt give baytril alone.... I have never seen baytril work on any of my rats :?

You can give them together.

What dosage of Baytril have you been prescribed, and how much does the rat weigh? It's actually a good choice of antibiotic in most cases, but it's often underdosed, which might explain why you've not found it effective in the past.

Well I moved country a year and a half ago.... so these vets its there first time prescribing me Baytril.
UK vets I cant remember there dosages.

I have 2 6month old boys weighing 600g each. The dosage is 0.4ml Metcam for 2-3 days and 0.1 twice a day of Baytril.

I guess I should also say its for URI.... not myco.
My boys are in general good health... active to the point of waking me up all night haha xD

Occasional sneezing..... odd porphrin discharge on one boy that the vet saw.

They hate Baytril and Metacam haha like watching toddlers lick anything else to get the taste out there mouths.

I would expect them to each have about 0.3ml twice a day, so 0.1 is very low.

That's assuming it's a 25mg/mL solution; maybe it's more concentrated elsewhere?

Also, if they've given you 2mL and they expect you to dose two rats at 0.1mL each twice daily, that works out as a 5 day course, which isn't enough for most URIs. 2 weeks is more like it.

(Also also, myco is a URI... Do you mean UTI? :?: )

My bad then it is myco... just not a bad case of it

its 50% solution

Yeah I can say I dropped the vial and they'll give me more so I can spread it out to a proper length of time.

Do they mean they diluted it 50% or it is the 50% baytril? I've seen people get caught out on that before.

I think 50% baytril....

It Fenoflox 50mg/ml... I dont have the box though as they measured it out.

If it's a 50mg/mL solution, then actually 0.1mL twice daily for a 600g rat isn't far off. The standard dosage for a rat is 10mg/kg twice daily, which works out to 0.2mL/kg for this particular solution, which is 0.12mL for a 600g rat. However, the only references I can find to Fenoflox are for an injectable solution?

Yeah, Im in Finland.... So I guess depending on the country it can be different.

I have noticed less sneezing now, well only really witnessed one sneezing episode (they wake me up in the night if they sneeze, eat, fight xD ) so all seems to be working :D .... Last dose of Metacam today as vet said 2-3days.

Well you was right...... 4 days worth of baytril for 2 rats. Ive ran out and messaged my vets asking for more as of yet still no reply off them.... tad irritated.

Really makes me want to become a vet with speciality in rats health. I don't like relying on someone else ensuring the survival of my rats. I gone through a lot of Health issues with rats but because I dont have letters etc after my name I am powerless. Although this is the first time in 10 years Ive been given Metacam so I had to ask for advice =)

UPDATE:

The vet who treated my rats directly replied with an apology for the miscalculation... :D

Well second update:

8 days of medicine so far and the weirdest thing ... days 7 still odd sneezing and mucus... Day 8 no sign of anything (though one just sneezed now but only one sneeze - unheard of) Ive never seen an URI go from existing to not so quick xD
