One of our girls, Yachi, recently had a lump removed, and generally appears to be recovering well (running, climbing, eating, drinking etc). I'm a little concerned that the wound may be developing an infection, though.

She's already on a course of post-op baytril (0.15ml once daily; she barely weighs 200g), so I was wondering if there's anything I can do apart from cleaning with salt water/hibiscrub (any recommendation as to which is better?) and keeping an eye on it with a view to calling the vet if it looks any more definite? Would it be better to move her and a companion into a hospital cage with a blanket bedding rather than the cardboard she's on, for instance? (She had the hospital cage/blanket for 3 days before moving back to the main cage)

(Just to clarify, if it is infected it's very early doors, and this may just be a case of "overly-cautious daddy" rather than anything real, so I'm just looking at precautionary measures for now!)

Where was the lump, how big is the wound, how long ago was the op, and what makes you think it is infected?

The lump was in the crook in between her back leg and genitals, the wound's about 15-20mm long, and she had the op Friday last week (3rd March).

My initial concern was that there was what looked like a white substance inside the wound, though when we dabbed a tissue on it it appeared to be dry. There's a tiny whiff about it too, but you really have to get in close to catch it. There's no sign of inflammation or redness around it. I've had another look at it tonight and it doesn't appear to have changed; I'm not sure if it could just be that I can see fat from the edge of the wound? (I've seen this before when boys have had gashes during fights!)
